Does anyone know anything about the takin at warsaw? It looks quite old and was walking in a way that looked like it had sore hoofs or was arthritic.

Byś is 21 months old now, it is pretty early to seperate him from his mother. Shikari is pregnant again, the new baby is due early November. Anyway, Byś's new home might be Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon not LA Boissiere, as they have built a new Indian rhino enclosure and they are expecting an Indian rhino this October. La Boissierre has white rhinos, they've never mentioned Indian rhinos before.
The Warsawa rhino was indeed transferred to Zoo de la Teste, Bassin d'Arcachon. They have been planning for and building this exhibit for some time. Also, some Asian primates will arrive soon.

Second Indian Rhino was born October 23-another male. He has a white left front leg-like the indian rhino born in 2009 at Nuremberg Zoo. Here are some pictures:

And the name ?I've found"Bysia"on their homepage, but the article is in polish, so I have no idea, if that is the name of the calf or not, so, do you know the name of the calf,Kalat ?
It looks strange, but perhaps it is again ... Byś (in accordance with the zoo web side). Sponsor rhinos at the zoo is a company Byś so "the customer pays the customer requires". Primarily advertising, sad and very impractical in this case. Generally all animals born in the Warsaw Zoo in one year have names starting with the same letter (year after year A, B, C, D and so on). Already the first Byś broke the rules.
A small piece of news from Warsaw Zoo: The enclosure for the Egyptian fruit bat is being changed or renovated. All the bats have been moved off show or off site and the complete interior of the enclosure stripped out. When I visited last week, the glass frontage had been covered with a plastic tarp so I couldn't see what was inside but there were lights on and therefore no bats. I do not know if the bats will be going back in or if something will replace them.

I visited again today, the Egyptian fruit bats are now gone and the enclosure has been planted nicely with some tropical plants and perches and a nice substrate. Inside the enclosure is now a Blythe's Hornbill. This species has been offshow for quite a long time (I have never seen it before today) and there is one very old looking animal who had some problems with wings and tail feathers being very badly damaged (will post some pictures soon)
Other news from Warsaw Zoo
- There is a baby yellow-collared macaw. It was born sometime over the winter because during winter the species is moved off-show and they have just been brought back on-show
- There was a baby Chimpanzee
- One of the young male Vicunas which breed well at Warsaw Zoo was in a seperate area behind the European bison with a sign saying that it is in quarantine to be transferred to a zoo in the US. Does anyone know which zoo?

- Atlantic Mudskippers have left the collection
- The aquarium has been closed for renovations for several months, it is still closed but I looked through the windows and saw many tropical plants and what looked like a small pond with a small fountain but I couldn't see much because mostof the windows had black boards covering them
-Some of the animals such as flamingoes and penguins have been let out from the winter holding areas
- For some reason, the indoor hippo pool which is also home to huge pacu had several swordtail fish in it
News from the last time that I visited but forgot to post here:
- There has been a baby red-cheeked gibbon born
- The gibbon island's main tree was destroyed in a storm, luckily the gibbons were in the indoor area for winter so were unharmed but the island and climbing equipment had bad damage

A bit of news since I last posted here. The bolded things above are related to things I am writing about now.
- The Gibbon island whose tree was destroyed has been rebuilt with logs being used instead of an actual tree which is a shame since I don't think it looks as nice but I can't think of anything that could have been better
- The Aquarium is still not open but the outdoor area looks to have been done up nicely.
- A lot of the previously faded signage has been redone and is looking much nicer.
- There are now five Congo peafowl, the original pair in one enclosure, one male in another enclosure and a second pair in a third semi off-show (visible if you look through a hedge, if you know the zoo then it is the set of off-show areas where the capercaillies are held, behind the bird house) enclosure.
- A male Hamadrayas baboon was separated from the main group due to dominance issues
- One Grey-crowned crane was separated from the main group but I don't know why
- The seals have been moved from their adequate sized enclosure to a tiny little pool that is usually a duck pond. It is a tiny waist deep pool that is no where near suitable for four grey seals. The seal pool was completely drained and I hope the seals will be moving back soon.
New Species:
- Blue Crabs have replaced the Atlantic Mudskippers
- Eurasian Turtle Dove in bird house
- Wood Lark added to bird house
- White-throated Monitor added to reptile house

This is the roadside brown bear enclosure that is a few hundred metres from the front of the zoo itself.
I knew it was just a matter of time before someone stupid and/or drunk walked by and decided to try and get in
A few bits of News from a visit today:
- The Eclectus Parrot group in the bird house is unfortunately down to only two males
- The Helmeted Curassow has gone (I would think has died because it was quite an old individual though it could possible be offshow)
-The Red Billed Quelea group had many of the birds nesting (around a dozen nests) and the males were in bright display plumage
- There is a big display of dinosaurs around the zoo with large models and signs dotted around. This is an advert for the 'Jurassic World' film with the logo for the film on the signs; they were seemingly very popular.
- I noticed a Red-necked Wallaby joey today, it was quite small but was sticking its head of its mother's pouch.
- The primates have moved around to make full use of available space with the now very warm weather. The indoor monkey house was closed off to visitors with the Squirrel Monkeys from inside who had a very small enclosure moving into a medium sized enclosure previously for Diana Monkeys who have moved into an enclosure that was split between ring-tailed lemurs and black-and-white ruffed lemurs. The lemurs now each have an island on a 'lake' (there is a third island there for gibbons).
