Bioparc Zoo de Doué la Fontaine News from Zoo de Doue

Why wouldn't it be correct ?
I've used a tool named "calculating surface" on an official french website from the government.
And I didn't even remove from the surface all plants islands that the rhinos can't reach.
 
Because I've seen the area recently, and I would say, both exhibits are much larger, I would say, around 1.5 hectares, even more ? But maybe I'm wrong.
 
Don't forget that visitors are above the exhibit, giving an impression of a large area.
Some parts are also unreachable for the gazelles, or for both species, which reduces the total area.
And keep in mind that calculating with your eyes isn't necessary the better way to find a distance, even less a surface !

you can see a lot of pictures of the opening last week of the new area "Le cratère des carnivores". The three female cheetahs already kept at the park has joined their new massive enclosure (more than 200 meters length and one hectare surface area). It is hope that the future cheetahs' run will be amazing. Two aardvarks are due to come during spring and will be mixed with a pair of meerkats and a pair of bat-eared foxes in a large and mountainous outdoor exhibit, between the lions and the cheetahs.
 
Looks terrible in the photos. I saw the exhibt under construction and it didn't look good there. And so they fit wonderfully with all enclosures that were built under the direction of the grandson of the zoo founder. Although he is an architect, he has no idea about animal welfare or attractive zoo design.But he has an incredible bad taste when you look at all the rust parts that he uses in his exhibis. Too bad, the facilities built under his father and grandfather gave the unusual zoo its predominantly good quality, which is now declining entirely under the rule of the grandson
 
From what I can see I must say a really like it. I find it a very attractive design. Although I must say I'm an architect by training. A nice blend between (landscape) architecture and natural form/elements. It has an original look and creates lots of different spaces and opportunities for the animals than the average big field with a couple of fake rocks.
 
I understand Bib Fortuna does not like it. I prefer more natural landscape without any artificial items. In this way, I prefer the past exhibits of the park.
But I have to say that the new exhibits are really impressive and give a new way to enclosure design. This park is not too large but from all the zoos I visited (about 100 in 8 countries) this is the first you can enjoy a whole day from sunrinse to sunshine. You must be in the two large aviaries or see the snow leopards at this times. Magic !

Other information : new mhorr gazelles are coming. I don't remember well but maybe 8 or something like this.

8 Mhorr gazelles- in this tiny exhibit, which they have to share with Black Rhinos ? Oh my godness...:(

Personally, I know a few more zoos to spend a whole day there than Dou'e....Well, as for the snow leopards. When I saw their enclosure, I felt no magic, just pity. One of the worst snow leopard exhibits I've ever seen. Then came the one in Beauval, not much better. In France you may be overwhelmed to build reasonable enclosures for snow leopards.
 
OK I've really no idea in what way the new snow leopard enclosure should be one of the worst. Regarding the new African enclosures, I have to say I like it, because it is not the same old exhibit style like in other Zoos.
 
Bib Fortuna, what's wrong with Doue ?
I can't understand your position ! Of course, Beauval's snow leopards exhibit is really bad (too small, without climbing opportunities, with visitors all around) but don't tell me the Doué one is bad. It's large, with a high cliff and the snow leopards have all day & night access to the exhibit. Of course, there are not a lot of trees and grass but it looks like there habitat.
In my opinion it is one of the tenth best in Europe. You must explain your judgment.

Regarding the gazelles, the same. They have a separeted paddock (of-show) and they can hide and escape from the rhinos in the two main enclosures. So what's the problem ?
 
Hi everyone, I'm looking for information about vultures exhibits, and I'd like to know a little bit more about the old exhibition of vultures (The vulture pit).

One friend has told me that apart of vultures, it used to be more bird species. Can anybody told me which other species used to keep in this part of the park?

At the entrance of the pit there was an aviary for Andean condors and after for Abyssinian ground hornbills and southern ground hornbills. Nothing more to my memory.
 
I don't know where the animals come from.

It was not precise the sex of the two new gazelles but previously they have 1.2. I think the new ones are females so they must have 1.4 breeding group now.
