Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Nico Passed On?

I noticed on ISIS that Longleat is no longer listed as keeping Western Lowland Gorillas. I checked Longleat's official site, but he's still noted as being part of the Safari Boat attraction.

So, who's right here? Is it a mistake on ISIS' behalf, or an unupdated Longleat site?

Maybe ISIS just messed it up? Surely it'd be on their website if he'd died?

It would be sad news indeed if nico has passed away. But Longleat could serve as a batchelor group of two and give the rest of EEP a much needed resource

Hmm i know he is pretty old i think ISIS could be right, it would be nice for the island to have chimps again in my opinion.

The island is not really suited for such animals. I would feel sorry for chimps as they could only house a handful of animals. Thats why I feel its better for a small batchelor group of two or three male Gorillas.

I think the housing is too small really for any great ape, except maybe a pair of Orangs. If they could extend and modernise the house then it might be ok, but I doubt that would happen as it would be a major job.

Never considered Orangs, interesting Idea however it would probably make a poor display for vistors. They would probably do quite well there thou.

Maybe they could get Sumatrans and mix them with gibbons, that'd make a good display :p

Would involve alot of building work on the island to make it more suitable.

Gibbons would be great on the island with more than enough climbing opportunities.

Personally I'm still for the small batchelor gorilla group, but if they could mix them with mangebeys or de brazza's it would make a good exhibit.

Is it possible they could make the island larger? I think all the ideas suggested sound good but the inside quarters will have to be made alot bigger first.

I don't think they'd make the island larger. It was designed centuries ago by Capibility Brown, so I think they'd want to keep the heritage aspect.

Ah yes, in your opinion what is is the maximum amount the current island and housing could hold?

In reference to the two comments about mixing another smaller species (gibbon, mangabey) with a great ape (orang, gorilla), I would have to say that there would be a real concern for the smaller species' welfare. I haven't seen Longleat's island in person, but if the other comments about the exhibit's holding capacity amounting to a small bachelor group of gorillas, then I would expect the flight distance for a smaller co-habiting species to be minimal. The end result would be primates in the water, probably drowned. That said mangabeys are probably proficient swimmers.

The house is tiny, however the island is of a decent size. For any new inmates I feel the house needs to be improved first.
