Brookfield Zoo No More Elephants

Growing up I have fond memories of the elephants at both Brookfield and Lincoln Park.I would visit every couple of years to visit family. Now that Great Bear Wilderness is finished I hope BF is going to focus on completely revamping its Pachyderm facility. They current building has been closed for close to 2 years while they remodel the interior of building.Does anyone know if there are any bigger plans for Pachy here?

The links to the articles in these posts no longer work unfortunately. What are the current plans for elephants (or lack there of) at Brookfield Zoo? Are they planning on building a new African or Asian elephant exhibit at some time in the foreseeable future?

Yes the zoo plans to eventually bring Elephants back to Brookfield and currently has a plan in place to do this. The details of this plan are currently not available and also are not sure whether the current residents of the Pachyderm Building Nile Hippo,Pygmy Hippo,South American Tapir and Black Rhino are included in these plans. This all hinges on capital funding, during several visits to Brookfield this year we were told by multiple sources that the zoo is having a harder time than ever raising money. So once money is secured one would hope work is to begin.
As far as Lincoln Park is concerned we doubt that elephants would ever return to the zoo.

Thanks for the info and insight Team Tapir. I would think that this would be a horrible time to be fundraising for an new exhibit. If you could do it for any species I would think it would be elephants, especially in a large market zoo like Brookfield.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes them. Based on what is going on with the economy as I write this, perhaps quite a long time.
