Buta died on 11th May 2015 after collapsing suddenly in the house. She was 31 years old. I don't believe they released further info on the cause of death at the time
 
Bizarre. Can anyone tell me what happened to the three male hybrid calves produced? Gus, Geoffrey and George? Not seen last weekend, only female was there.

I believe one has died and the other two have moved elsewhere.
 
Its a pity they are making out this is a good pairing which it isn't really. I guess Noah's Ark don't care though, they are just Giraffes to them.
 
The cited article stated hybrid M Geoffrey was moved to novel zoo park Van Blanckendaell Park in Tuitjenhorn in the Netherlands.

I actually imagined both remaining hybrid males ended up here.

Now not so sure and need to check it over first.
 
Hopefully if they have moved abroad it will be to an all single male group to prevent any more unwanted births

It is the same place that Savannah from Heythrop went to. As of March, Blanckendaell only had Savannah and Geoffrey so where the other male from NAZF ended up isn't clear...
 
George would be 6yrs old and Geoffrey would be 4yrs now. Unusual anywhere abroad would take on a hybrid but I suppose it's 3 less hybrids in Britain. Just another 40 to go
 
Yes, I don't know how long they have been gone for? I know they had four together at one point which would have been the female, Gerald, Geoffrey and George but it must have been a tight squeeze in that small house. Perhaps the two offspring left before Gus came along? Gerald died, and maybe Gus? Leaving just the female until Kitos arrival.
 
The house looked quite substantial, as if it were built for pygmy hippos.

I was just there for a weeks work experience. I did comment that it somewhat reminds me of Marwells Pygmy hippo house. (The pools here are much smaller of course).

A Spix's guan Penelope jacquacu has joined 6 military macaws in the former blue & gold macaw aviary. The grey hornbill has gone and has been replaced by Yellow-crowned Bishop Euplectes afer.
