Non-Crane Gruiformes in North American Zoos

I saw the wood-rails there almost a decade before you started visiting. ;)
I can confirm they had Guam Rails back then too.

As of January 2022, both are no longer at Fresno Chaffee.

I plan to return back in a couple of weeks. I became a member there so I can check as often as my schedule will allow.

I can confirm that San Diego Zoo does have the black crake (from my visit 12/11/2021).

Gray-Winged Trumpeter (11 holders)

Both San Diego parks now hold this species.

You can remove these three listings.

As mentioned by @Neil chace on the Roger Williams Park Zoo News 2022 thread, the facility now has giant wood rail in the Faces of the Rainforest building.

Update time! @birdsandbats gave me the go-ahead to roll out some updates for his threads, but he's still involved and will probably get a few rolled out himself before I get through them all. So don't worry, I'm not hijacking - I had full permission. ;)
I've maintained his formatting for clarity's sake, apart from adding onshow/offshow to Guam Rail.

This one is tricky; CALM's waterbird area has been blocked off for at least a year now, and it's unclear to me whether this is now a permanent arrangement.

San Antonio Zoo and Zoo Miami have Grey-Headed Swamphen

Oklahoma City Zoo has American Coot

San Antonio Zoo doesn't have Guam Rail on display anymore, not sure if they are bts

Miami has signage for Grey-Necked Wood Rail but I didn't see it so can't confirm it is still there.

Bronx has had Guam Rail for a couple years now, and has bred the species :)

SDZSP has Ridgway's Rail bts as well. @Coelacanth18 what are in the two aviaries dedicated to the rails at Living Coasts? They had about 7 birds on-exhibit when I was there in 2021.

I can confirm that Cincinnati's Guam Rails are onshow (and in a free-flight room, does anywhere else do this?). Racine's, however, are not onshow anymore. Brookfield also keeps them bts.

Still a Special Memories listing under Giant Wood Rail. ;) I must say that this is probably the most profound loss in the closure of that facility. It was not a good zoo, but it had it's moments, and the individual Giant Wood Rail they kept was a very active animal who loved to call out to visitors. I wish more zoos could keep this fun species.

Bay Beach no longer exhibits American Coot. This species is probably gone from the facility but Bay Beach has a habit of taking birds off-exhibit for long periods of time and then they end up going back on exhibit later, so it is possible the coot is still around.

I've seen Giant Wood-Rail listed a number of times on exotic private bird keeping pages so it's clearly a species present in the US aviculture trade. I do wish more zoos would exhibit them.

Unless they recently reacquired them, the Fresno Chaffee Zoo no longer holds Guam Rails.
Caldwell Zoo had grey winged trumpeters, but with the South American construction I’m not sure if they are still there behind the scenes.

The Erie Zoo in Pennsylvania still holds black crake, as according to this article.
