North America Western Lowland Gorilla Population

I don't think SSP will allow ABQ have another troop, but if she likes to socialize (unlike her mother, Huerfanita and Colo) maybe they move her to Atlanta, Little Rock, Columbus or San Francisco.
I believe they'll try to reintroduce her to the troop, especially with a first time mother coming.

0.2 have been transferred from Busch Gardens to Hogle Zoo:

Hogle Zoo welcomes 2 new gorillas, Mary and Pele

0.1 Mary - November 4, 1987 - Lamydoc x Katanga

0.1 Iwa "Pele" Rafiki - February 12, 2002 - Moja x Mary

Mary and Pele will now join Hogle Zoo’s troop, a tight-knit crew that’s made up of three gorillas: Husani (31-year-old male), Jabali (18-year-old female), and Georgia (nearly two-year-old daughter of Husani and Jabali).

Cincinnati Zoo Gorilla Group Change:

After the recent passing of Jomo the gorilla, Chewie has been moved to his old troop from Ndume’s Troop to be the alpha female. Chewie is known as a very dominant gorilla so she will hopefully fit in well with the less dominant M'Linzi. Now this leaves the family group with M'Linzi, Chewie, Gladys, Mondika, and Elle while Ndume‘s troop just has him and Mara.

Sad news out of Calgary. 6 year old Kimani has been diagnosed with liver cancer. It has spread and while the zoo is reaching out to everyone possible to discuss possible treatment options they are also realistic that palliative care may be their only option. She is the youngest gorilla they have seen with this kind of cancer.

However not all doom and gloom there. The new baby has been named Eyare.

Any speculation on where he's gonna go? I'd have to guess either Kansas City or Brookfield since both lack a silverback at the moment.

I am curious as well. I didn't have anything marked for where he may be transferred to. I'm going to guess Brookfield.

As reported by @Smaggledagle in the Denver Zoo news thread, 20-year-old silverback Mbeli will be leaving soon to join a new facility:

And also, Sekani & Bukavu from Little Rock have finally made it to Fort Worth!

Sekani and Bukavu arrived few months a go but the introduction took months... Funny there is no mention to Jackie... Maybe she moved away...

I don't think M'beli will go to Brookfield, it's too soon.
My bet is Kansas City (but Masika is his niece)... Bronx also needs a replecement to Ernie, and since all the females are overrepresented M'beli is a great genetic match, however I don't think a young Silverback should deal with a big and complex troop like Bronx.

M’beli is 20 years old, not what I consider a young silverback. To me, a 20 year silverback is in his prime years.
