North American African Elephant Population 2024

If the zoo didn't think they had the ability to house elephants again, then they wouldn't have stated that it's a possibility.
Of course, there is tons of evidence that points to Louisville not bringing back elephants. But when the zoo hasn't made any recent indication of where this new exhibit would be, or even what species they may hold, I don't think its totally fair to write off a potential.
Not really writing off completely that they will hold elephants, nothing is truly certain and would love be proven. I’m just assuming based on the blog post and having seen the master plan that they may not return.

If elephants do return to Louisville which individuals would you expect to transfer there?

This is a question no one can really answer. It would be whoever is available at that time. If we’re being realistic, let’s say they go multi-generational then I could see a split of Omaha’s or Sedgewick’s herd like what happened with SDZWAP and Tucson. If they go only bachelor then honestly any bull calves out of Omaha and Sedgewick are my best bets.

With the amount of pregnancies and calves we have on the ground at the moment, it's very difficult to say. Too many options to consider - especially as elephants at Louisville will still be another half decade away at the very least if they do decide to go back to them.
