just curious, what happened to this elephant?
He was sent to a program that did elephant back safaris (or something similar to that), where he eventually died.

EDIT: Just checked, I was correct, he arrived at ALS from the UK (captured in Uganda) in '72, and left for Botswana in '87 where he died shortly after. Also fun fact, the asian elephant bull Samson who was born at the park and now lives at the Oregon Zoo, was named after this elephant, who was also called Samson.

I believe you’re referring to these two:

Kathy and Samson were brought together to Canada from the Woburn Wild Animal Kingdom. They resided at the African Lion Safari for sixteen years before being sold to Randall Moore of Elephant Back Safari, where they returned to Africa to Botswana.

Sampson died in 1987; but Kathy is still alive, where she’s now the matriarch of her herd: The Individuals | Abu Camp

Interesting. Thanks. I asked that with the Howlett Zoo elephants in mind. But I see it’s a different situation.

Does anybody know what happened to Luke at Two Tails and Jenny owned by Gary Landry? I have been recordkeeping elephants and these elephants were listed as alive. But I have suspicions about those two elephants. On a recent visit to Two Tails, Luke was nowhere to be seen on the tour, and the owner (Patricia Zerbini) made no mention of him whatsoever. Luke is nowhere to be seen in recent pictures, and I'm very curious if somebody out there knows what happened to him. When it comes to Jenny, I have made numerous attempts to find recent pictures and updates of Jenny (owned by Gary Landry.) but I have been unsuccessful. I do hope these elephants are still alive and well, but I would like to be certain about these elephants for my recordkeeping.

why not email two tails and ask? I know Luke is alive at least two years ago. I never heard of Jenny. Was she a circus elephant? That’s harder. Try to find out who was leasing her act. Maybe a shrine circus.

Thank you! I will definitely send an email and ask. Jenny does not seem to be a circus elephant, since she is an African elephant, and I do not think there are any more performing African circus elephants left if I'm not mistaken.

Isn't Luke an Asian Elephant?

And I too have never heard of a female named Jenny there too. Possibly she goes under another name?

I would strongly recommend either emailing them or just asking the owner the next time you visit.

Luke is an Asian elephant at Two Tails. Jenny is from a separate location. On the elephant database (Absolut Elephant database, facts and encyclopedia () - Elephant Encyclopedia and Database) there is a gentleman named Gary Landry who supposedly owns a 37 y/o African Elephant by the name of Jenny who was relocated from Alan Campbell. I have tried to research about jenny but came across no results, so I'm just curious for any information about Jenny and her owner.

Ah yes I was a bit confused as this is a thread for African Elephants, but then I see your also consulting about Jenny too.;)

I've never heard of Gary Landry and searches come up with nothing regarding him or Jenny. Not really sure how to get info about her unfortunately.

Ah yes, thank you. I just noticed this is an African elephant chat, so my bad on that part. I will continue looking for these two elephants and I do hope they are alive and well.

Alan Campbell was a circus trainer. He got killed in Hawaii by an elephant. So I am sure Jenny was part of the group and was a circus elephant.

I remember Campbell now. He was Tyke's trainer. I could look into where his elephants relocated to and see where she went.

The database lists a different Jenny at that location who was sent to TES. Where majority of the remaining elephants from Hawthorn were sent in 2006.

that Jenny was an Asian. I don’t think all of the elephants on the Hawaii trip are all owned by Hawthorn? Just Tyke was that I am aware of.

All of the elephants were from Hawthorn corp afaik. Campbell worked for them in his later years as an elephant trainer.

Some years back a good friend of mine, you works with Africans, did a project for her facility regarding elephants in private facilities. From what I recall she managed to get info on all except one: Jenny (Gary Landry). I had used my contacts to help find out and couldn't get any info. It was assumed she passed away.

Regarding Luke, @

then Hawthorn let go nearly all of his Africans? I knew he had one when USDA shut him down and that cow went to Oklahoma.

Am I right that Gary Landry was a circus trainer or at least a private performer?

Yes, most were sent to sanctuaries in the early 2000's, besides that last cow who was eventually sent to PAWS in 2007. Most of the elephants went to TES.
