Then what would happen to all the effort Miami did to expand their exhibit complex for their Asians? There are now 3 yards and that would leave Dalip & Nellie by themselves. Dalip is most likely nearing the end of his lifespan and Nellie is post-reproductive and is getting up there in age as well. To me, it seems pointless that Ongard would leave Miami. He has valuable genes and could be trained for AI which could be sent to other facilities across the country. He can stay at Miami and when Dalip and Nellie pass away the zoo can acquire new females for him to breed with.Could Ongard be sent to White Oak Conservation to mate with the cows their and live in a bachalor group with Osgood, Gunther, P.T., Irvin, and Barack with Casey or Charlie as the leader
The elephants are a mix. Cincinnati Zoo plans to bring Yasmin, Anak, Kabir, and Sanjay. Yasmin and Kabir are both related to four other elephants including each other while Anak and Sanjay both come from the Motex x Warda line as Anak’s father was Alexander. This makes Anak and Sanjay very ungenetically valuable while Yasmin and Kabir are somewhat genetically valuable.I know the Cincinnati Zoo intends on bringing in 4 Asian elephants from the Dublin Zoo but with their arrival are they bringing a ton of genetic diversity where they’re from or is it very little?

Yasmin is a female and she is the mother of Anak the other breeding female and Kabir one of the young bulls. There is also Sanjay who is a male and the son of Anak.I’m assuming Yasmin is a female so is Kabir her son or is that the other mother

Yes, Yasmin and Anak will breed with Sabu.thank you for the clarification. And they plan to mate with the bull that’s there now?

Your welcome!Got it! Thank you for answering my questions!
0.1 Sheena sadly passed away of natural causes this morning at the age of 50. This leaves one elephant at Phoenix 0.1 Indu, and I wonder what the future holds for Phoenix's elephant program. They just acquired a male GOHR a couple weeks ago from Fresno so maybe they will phase out Asian elephant once Indu dies and acquire a female GOHR and start a breeding program. Another likely option is housing a bachelor herd once Indu passes as the population is in need of another bachelor facility.

Mali is only 23 she can still breed for at least two more decades.I want people’s input on this one because I do wonder where things stand with the Asian Elephant Population in North America and what the future could look like with Asian Elephants in zoos. I know Cincinnati Zoo wants to resume their Asian Elephant breeding program and I know Tulsa Zoo is building a new Asian Elephant exhibit but I don’t know if they want to start a breeding program for their Asian Elephant herd or not.
I only know of one mother expecting in 2022 and that’s Asha. I’ve been told Rose Tu could be pregnant at the Oregon Zoo but I’m not getting my hopes up with them. And is their any chance Mali at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo can still have a calf or is she post reproductive? Saint Louis Zoo and Columbus both just get on my nerves when it comes to Asian Elephant breeding.
