North American Asian Elephant Population 2022

Re: subspecies, the effective breeding population for Sri Lankan’s is two animals, a 32 year old cow and her 21 year old nephew. There are around 8-10 other pure Sri Lankan’s, but they are all older non reproductive cows at a minimum of 45 years old.

There are also a handful of pure Malaysian Elephants, including Sabu and Jati at Cincinnati, and Billy at LA.
Sri Lankan elephants are assigned to Indian subcontinent population. There have been demonstrated to be no genetic differences.

I personally think that if one more Albuquerque Zoo elephant dies within the year, the zoo will phase out elephants.
Why that assumption ... as I think research into EEHV is critical to finding a cure for elephants in captivity as well as in situ

NOTE: It may have been found in some wild elephants too as I seem to recall from reading some research papers in in situ populations in Asia. I have to look it up though and my evening is up right now. Got to get up early morning.

Nowhere any evidence of negligence found within that document beyond somewhat slanderous and unsubstantiated claims by a law company hellbent for ... One wonders what really are they trying to prove beyond a doubt?

Alas exactly this kind of media exposure and ostentatuous clamoring blue murder is absolutely dangerous and oil on the water for the animal welfare lobby only interested in make believe truths and some extreme and odd politically correct posturing.

Does anyone any information about the 2 female elephants that were supposed to come to the Smithsonian National Zoo from the Netherlands? Weren’t they supposed to arrive at the zoo in December 2021?

The two elephants that are coming are 0.1 Trong Nhi (Alexander x Donna) 2003-05-13 and her daughter 0.1 Nhi Linh (Timber x Trong Nhi) 2013-08-10. There is no public set arrival date but the National Zoo has the permits to receive them.

It looks like they are still waiting for the permit's approval. Fish and Wildlife haven't given it the go-ahead as of last Wednesday. I would assume we should be seeing an approval anytime within the next 2 months and then they should be on American soil by this fall/winter?

As soon as it's approved i'd imagine they'd be getting them here asap. It would definitely be in the second part of this year. Both females were apparently planned to get pregnant first, and it appears this has been achieved so the only wait now is for the permit. Fingers crossed it gets approved soon.

Oh okay, thank you so much! Sorry about that.
