Freemartinism is well documented in the Bovidae family and has also occurred in giraffes. I’ve not heard of it occurring in elephants, but in any case the calves are both male and would be unaffected.

Obviously Rudy and Sunny are not pregnant then if the post states Sabu will hopefully breed with them. It's a shame, as most of us were confident Beco may have gotten the job done prior to his passing.

The Dublin girls won't be moving to Cincinnati until the new complex over there is complete - which is scheduled to be in 2024.
 
Yes, obviously. The Dublin girls are already in training for their transport.

I was also hopeful about Beco.

Sabu is there to possibly breed but he’s mainly only staying at Columbus until the Cincinnati zoo finishes their new elephant exhibit.

I believe the four being sent are; 0.1 Yasmin (1990), 0.1 Anak (2003), 1.0 Kabir (2017) and 1.0 Sanjay (2018). The hope will be to breed from the two girls - and obviously the two young males will excitedly provide new genetics for the US population.

Me too - especially as Beco was a very valuable male. Hopefully his younger brother, Bohdi, at Denver can move into a breeding situation soon too.

He will have the opportunities. Columbus should have better luck with a proven breeding bull and natural breedings. We know Sunny and Rudy needs to get pregnant now.

the only unhappy elephant will be Hank. :)

bodhi has a daughter in Houston born in April 2021 to first time mother Tupelo. Her name is Winnie and males Kabir and Sanjay I don’t think are genetically valuable whereas the females are somewhat genetically valuable.

Well, let's hope that Sabu gets the job done and gets Rudy & Sunny pregnant before they become too old. He has had calves in the past with Jati back in Cincinnati, right?

One with Jati and one with a Dickerson Zoo park cow. I think Moola.

both calves are deceased.

He's had one male calf with Jati back in 1998 and then sired a female calf named Nisha with another female at Dickerson Park Zoo a few years later (both calves are now deceased due to EEHV). He's also been breeding regularly with Jati up till pretty recently since she's still cycling (just most likely unable to actually become pregnant) so he should definitely be able to get Columbus' females pregnant in no time. Fingers crossed Columbus has a trio of calves around this time in 2024 to spring 2025!

Ok when was was the last time Sabu had a calf? And honestly we have no idea if Sunny or Rudy at this time are currently pregnant. They could be and we just don’t know it but I don’t see the point in speculating cause I have been wrong about so many things and I just think we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves until we know the facts.

Ok so why are we speculating and spreading misinformation of something we don’t know the whole story too? We have a thread for this and @IndianRhino has said this repeatedly everyone needs to be more careful what we say about elephant management in the United States. Are we saying stuff that’s adding value to the conversation? I don’t see the point in continuing to speculate about this, let’s just wait and see what happens.

You're the one doing the most speculation reading through the recent bit here and the one who started off the most recent round of speculation. Why are you going after other people for it?
