Great news hopefully, all three girls are pregnant and due sometime late this year or early 2025I heard from docents at Columbus today that there will be ultrasounds done on Rudy, Sunny and Phoebe to check for pregnancy soon! Hopefully this means they've detected changes in bloodwork!
There also appears to be no set date for Sabu to be sent back to Cinci, and right now Columbus is waiting for Cincinnati to make that call.
To my understanding they don't typically perform ultrasounds unless bloodwork indicates a shift in hormone levels, so this is incredibly promising!Great news hopefully, all three girls are pregnant and due sometime late this year or early 2025

Very sad, she was the oldest living captive elephant in the WORLD!El Paso Zoo mourns death of beloved Asian elephant Savannah
Savannah, an Asian elephant at the El Paso Zoo has died.
Sad news to learn. As a lot of have mentioned, an elephant reaching 71 isn't something we see happening often. She did really well.El Paso Zoo mourns death of beloved Asian elephant Savannah

It's more accurately a tie with Ruth at Buttonwood Park. Both were born the same year, and being wild-caught there isn't a known birth date for either. Both were 1958 births. With Savannah's death, there's a new holder of the oldest elephant in North America - Cora at Topeka, at 65 years of age.

A lot of respect to the El Paso team who I know have put in a lot of care and treatment for her over the past few decades to accommodate her conditions and help her achieve such an age.

Those two are the oldest confirmed living Asian Elephants in North America, but looking at the population list, I do notice that Sarah at Center for Elephant Conservation was born in 1957 and is possibly still alive which would make her the oldest elephant in North America. It's more accurately a tie with Ruth at Buttonwood Park. As another circus historian once told me, “Not everything is on the internet!” Savannah was older than 71 as well. Also based on photos from the 1950s, Savannah was not just a year old when she arrived to the United States in 1954.
