thanks! That explains why I couldn’t find them! I thought they would be on the Columbus Zoo social media!
Interesting that they gave scholarships to a TES employee and Ryan Easley. Oil and water! lol.

In all fairness, after Carol Buckley got the boot, TES significantly toned down it's anti-captivity nonsense. The anti-captivity stuff is really only reserved for use in reference to elephants who genuinely did suffer abuse and neglect in captivity until they came to TES. IE: Elephants from circuses and roadside zoos, not former AZA accredited zoo elephants.

Although that's not entirely universal! Flora (One of TES's African elephants) came from a circus, and she received excellent care at it! Her owner genuinely adored her and really struggled with his decision to let Flora go after she began to mature and indicated that she no longer enjoyed being the highlight act of his circus. There's actually a documentary floating around that shows the entire process that went into transiting Flora from circus elephant to sanctuary elephant. It's called One Lucky Elephant.

You are correct. Thank goodness that CB is gone. She lacks creditability with both elephant professionals and the general public.

My point is Ryan is anti sanctuary and supports circus elephants.

You are correct about Flora. I heard a story that CB eventually prevented him from visiting Flora. Which is sad and she wanted to visit Tarra??? Nuts. The owner died shortly after Flora got to sanctuary. Flora is definitely an exemption of circus elephant treatment. Nosey is the opposite side of the spectrum, sadly. They must have had strong evidence to support the confiscation and not return her.
 
Well, just because Floras former owner genuinely loved her does not mean she had the life she needed with him. I’m pretty sure she lived under way better conditions then most circus elephants, but she was alone and even if everything else is perfect (which pretty sure was not the case), that’s unacceptable.

oh Flora definitely did come with baggage. I have no first hand knowledge but suspect she doesn’t have social skills. Most circus elephants are terrible with the social skills because they are chained to a tether most of the time unable to move and socialize. Plus potential incompatible personalities.

From the documentary Flora was at Zoo Miami before arriving at TES. She got along well with the other elephants and was integrated in to the herd but because of her aggression towards people Zoo Miami wanted her gone. Flora’s owner sometimes regretted sending Flora to TES because she was mostly alone and not getting along with 1 of the the 2 females at the time and CB did not allow him to visit.
The documentary is very interesting all in all it tells Flora story but because of CB, TES is not seen in an all positive light.

oh yeah. I forgotten all about the Miami. Yes. She was aggressive to people and was aggressive at TES, no word on how she is now.

CB is not good news. At all. Her reputation is terrible. I will never forget a friend contacting me after she contacted TWRA and told me about the TB spreading. Why? Because of no masks in the TB barn with the Hawthorne girls. Jenny died of TB because of CB. Jenny was in the original here. Coincidence? I think not. They wouldn’t talk about it because of the suit of course. But that’s what we found out from other ways.


That’s why CB got fired. Plus over funding issue with the BOD. .
