North American Asian Elephant Population

The article may say 34 but only 32 currently
No calves have survived since they stopped touring
 
I can honestly only tell you what's public record. Have to keep somewhat professional. I was at the center about 3 months ago so my info as concurrent till then

She is now their fourth Asian Elephant. They currently have 1.3:

Booper (Betty Boop) (F) B 1972 wild
Sookie (F) B 1972 wild
Sneezy (M) B 1973 wild, Thailand
Asha (F) B 05/03/2002


I found this interesting story on Sneezy’s name and origin, whilst researching their Asian Elephants:
In 1972, the Laguna Hills Lion Country Safari in California imported seven Asian calves and dubbed them the "Seven Dwarves." They came from Thailand and cost $800 per elephant. Shortly thereafter they were transferred to the West Palm Beach Lion Country Safari in Florida, minus one that died beforehand.
Sneezy (SB160) was sold to the Memphis Zoo in July 1974 and has resided at the Tulsa Zoo since 1977. Happy (SB208) and Grumpy (SB168) were sold to the Bronx Zoo in March 1977. Happy still lives there with two other females Asian elephants, whereas Grumpy died in 2002. Dopey (SB148, later renamed Cindy) and Bashful (SB151, later renamed Jaz) were sold to Howard Johnson in May 1978 and transferred to his son Gary Johnson of Have Trunk Will Travel in 1987, eventually joining the George Carden Circus in 1993 where they still perform today. Doc (SB272, later renamed Vance) was sold to Bill Swain in June 1980, sold again to Mike Hackenberger of the Bowmanville Zoo eight years later, and died in 2007. The last dwarf, Sleepy, was the calf that never left California.


It also mentions Happy (1971) the somewhat famous Elephant that currently resides at the Bronx Zoo.
 
Amongst all the furore over the elephant arrival, you might have forgotten to mention some of the other new acquisitions.

The arrival of a new white rhino female, Mustang / Sally (14) and a proven breeder from Columbus - The Wilds is equally noteworthy. She will join an elderly female and long term resident Jeannie and a very youngish bull Rudo (that seems way too young to be bred with

Also, arriving is an 18-month old female giraffe Zoe from Henry Doorly Zoo. She will join the resident giraffe crash of 1.2.

Asha is said to be back in Polk City and not even the zoo mentions it. Zoo said Booper would meet cow Sooky and bull Snnezy.
 
It is ansteht example of the staggering amount of mismanagement in the elephant SSPs that Sneezy is still in Tulsa. He is a proven breeder, has no (or maybe one or two?) offspring and still lives in a zoo without breeding females. Unbelieveable.
 
Sneezy has no surviving offspring. Tulsa has purpposelly kept him because if he left they would have phased out elephants completely. They brought in females from other facilities (OKC, Ringling) and were very active in collecting him for other facilities (Dickerson, St. Louis, ABQ, etc.) but has tapered off in recent years
 
Auckland Zoo in New Zealand will stop it's elephant program and move its two cows to a new facility in a breeding situation outside of New Zealand. The location is yet to be determined, however it would be great to see them move to a breeding situation in the US for new genetics. Maybe San Diego Zoo will be involved as they imported Ongard from Australia.
