North American zoos that have successfully bred Takin & Puerto Rican crested frogs...

Long time no talk! My computer got taking over by one heck of a virus that my nortons didnt pick up on (drunk friends got a hold of it...lucky for them they didnt get ahold of the bill)

I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand on my zoo tech homework? I cannot access the isis as im not a member but I was wondering if you knew what North American zoos that have successfully bred Takin(Budorcas taxicolor) and Puerto Rican Crested Frogs (Peltophryne lemur)&what canadian zoos have succeeded in breeding moose in captivity?

For the Moose I found some old dates from Calgary and Toronto, both bred them at least during the 1980-ties succesfully.
 
The Edmonton Valley Zoo has bred several Takin. They have a decent sized herd of 6 at the moment.
 
Lincoln Park Zoo, San Diego Zoo, Potawatomi Zoo, Minnesota Zoo, The Wilds, Saint Louis Zoo, Red River Zoo, and Los Angeles Zoo have bred Takin. Possibly more.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Saint Louis Zoo and more have bred Puerto Rican Crested Toads.

so Saint Louis is the only one which has bred takin and Puerto Rican crested toads....*






*Half-joking, I'm not sure on the specifics of stacey's question (does she want zoos which have bred either, or zoos which have bred both?). It's a bit ambiguous.

Either or :) can be different zoos :)
 
Why would anyone want to breed takin and crested frog? Even hybrids of similar taxon (ie liger) are frowned upon, so why try to cross a mammal with an amphibian? Makes no sense. :p
 
I think European zoos may start breeding Golden takins (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi), I see that the United states is phasing out Mishmi takins (Budorcas taxicolor taxicolor) in favor of Sichuan takins (Budorcas taxicolor tibetanna), I think my home zoo the Los Angeles Zoo had a baby Sichuan takin recently, as for the Mishmi takins, they seem to be relatively common in european zoos, but I remember seeing them at the San Diego Zoo as a young boy, I have a book called American Zoos, and it mentioned that San Diego Zoo had Golden takins but I honestly dont believe that because the book lists a lot of innacurate facts about zoos and animals, and plus Golden takins just made it to Europe and according to Zootierliste there are no former european holdings of this subspecies, I hope my info helps
 
And also one more thing about Takins, I know the Denver Zoo had Mishmi takins, they were phased out and there paddock was demolished to make way for Toyota Elephant Passage, I have no idea wether the Denver Zoo bred them, does anybody know ?
 
Toronto Zoo still breeds their moose. A female calf Saro was born to parents Ashley and Elliot last spring. The pair has been very successsful, including a couple of sets of twins.
 
The Buffalo Zoo bred and was the original SSP Coordinator/studbook keeper for the Puerto Rican Crested Toad in the 1980's.

Well here is a list of zoos in the United States that have held Moose (Alces alces), I dont exactly know the breeding records of those facilities, but I can do some reasearch on that if anybody is interested, I know you didnt exactly ask for United states holdings or breedings but I thought you might be interested in knowing that the following American zoos had and possibly bred Moose (Alces alces)

San Diego Zoo
Griffith Park Zoo (Closed)
Northwest Trek
Boise Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Lincoln Park Zoo
Milwaukee County Zoo
Green Bay Zoo

along with some others, I hope this helps
 
In 1968 American Moose were bred at

Bowmanville (Canada) 1.0; Catskill (USA) 1.0; Madison (USA) 0.2; Milwaukee (USA) (1.0 DNS); Shubernacadie (Canada) 0.1
 
One thing i would like to mention about takins is that the London Zoo had Bhutan takins in the 1910s , I do not know if they ever bred though, does anybody know ?

Also I heard that Smithsonian National Zoo was thinking of getting Bhutan takins but I dont think that is going to happen, if that zoo does get takins most probably they will be Sichuan takins

The zoo already has Sichuan Taken at the breeding facility in Virginia. And the addition of Taken has been put off a bit mostly for lack of room.

No, takins never bred at London Zoo; London Zoo only ever had two takins.

London Zoo’s first takin was a male Bhutan or White’s takin Budorcas taxicolor whitei (or Budorcas whitei) that was presented by J. C. White. It arrived on 22nd June 1909 and died on 7th May 1918.

It was not only London Zoo’s first takin but probably the first living takin ever to leave Asia.

London Zoo's second takin, a female, arrived in 1923.
