The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is a facility located in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina (duh). The aquarium hosts mainly native wildlife including North American river otter, eastern screech owl, bald eagle, American alligator, eastern diamondback rattlesnake, cottonmouth, musk turtle, spiny softshell turtle, loggerhead sea turtle, squirrel tree frog, grey tree frog, eastern spadefoot toad, blue ridge dusky salamander, and broken striped newt, among various fishes, sharks, rays, and invertebrates.

On January 26th, the aquarium announced that due to avian influenza, they have moved their bald eagles off exhibit. On August 10th, the aquarium announced they are back on exhibit.

On March 26th, the aquarium announced that a (1.0) North American river otter named Pungo has passed away at age 17 due to age-related degenerative spine issues.

On July 2nd, the aquarium announced that they have acquired (0.0.2) Orinoco crocodiles from Zoo Miami in Florida. They also announced they have opened a new exhibit called Journey of the Orinoco, which opened in June.

On July 3rd, the aquarium announced that (0.0.500) Atlantic spadefish were hatched behind-the-scenes.

On August 9th, it was reported that the aquarium received a $240,808 grant from the National Institute of Museum and Library Services to build a new exhibit called "Future Waters", which will show the bts work of aquarists.

On September 16th, the aquarium announced they are releasing their cownose rays and Atlantic ray from the touch pool into the wild in the next week. A (0.0.1) yellow stingray will still live in the touch pool until early October.

The aquarium also announced they are in the start of a multi-phase renovation/construction of a new touch pool with multiple depths.

On December 10th, the aquarium announced they moved their bald eagles off-exhibit due to avian influenza. They were placed back on exhibit sometime after May 27th, 2024.

On January 22nd, 2024, the aquarium announced they closed off the Marsh Boardwalk and surrounding exhibits for renovations. The area reopened to the public on May 15th.

On May 6th, 2025, the aquarium announced they will construct a new touch tank exhibit in the future.


On May 23rd, the aquarium opened a new gallery called Future Waters to the public, which features a new 1,500 gallon saltwater coral reef tank, 2 working labs that showcases the facility's work with aquaculture and the raising of different coral species, and interactive exhibits.

On July 21st, the aquarium announced they installed 3 "view finder" binoculars on the Marsh Boardwalk.

On August 7th, the aquarium announced that 2 lined seahorses were born, which are on display in the Tidal Waters gallery.

* Worth mentioning that a female (0.1) corn snake named Li'l Maize hatched sometime in 2024, and the aquarium rehabilitated and released 46 sea turtles (of various species) back into the ocean in December 2024.
