Northumberland Country Zoo Northumberland Country Zoo News

It appears Hamerton have sent a serval to the zoo. Another nice cat species for the collection.

Indeed, Northumberland Zoo have just announced it now themselves yesterday - arrival of 4yr old female Serval Afia. A great addition I'm sure, can't wait to go and see her.

Seems like a very well run small zoo from what I’ve seen on Zoochat! When did it open? Only heard about it recently.

I've been visiting since 2014 when it was Eshottheugh Farm Park, I believe it had been up and running as a very small farm/petting zoo for a few years prior to that. Then in the past couple years they have just gone from strength to strength and bigger and bigger!
Maxine and the team runs the place like a dream.

It's been an absolute privilege to watch my own local animal park grow so much

Ye it really looks impressive how they’ve come up so well.

Just left the zoo, another excellent visit. I saw just about everything, including an appearance from Afia. Her enclosure is between the otters and the kookaburras. One of the lynxes was very active today and even the wildcats were in view. They seem to be down to only 3 ASCOs. It was nice to see some of the smaller species like the sugar glider and grey mouse lemur. I shall upload some images in the media section.

The parrot aviary is open, I’ll put some pictures on the gallery soon. They’ve also had a potoroo arrive which is currently being housed in the enclosure with the sugar gliders.

Visited yesterday. Lots of change even from earlier in the year.

The hot house is now half empty with the marmosets and turtles having left the collection. This is the oldest part of the zoo and is due to be replaced.

The tank on the corner of the mouse lemur exhibits in the nocturnal house has an inhabitant. Red eyed tree frogs!

There are now Siberian Chipmunks living next door to the North American porcupines.

Work is underway on a new exhibit between the tapir and capybara enclosure and the wallaby walk-through. The zoo has moved all it's domestics into paddocks and have built a path allowing access to more of the park. This makes the zoo feel a lot bigger. This also suggests to me that the new arrival will be an exotic species as there is now a clear divide in the collection between the farm animals and exotics.

Lynx and serval were no shows but managed to see the sugar gliders, snow leopards, tapir and one of the Scottish Wildcats on its platform.

Curious creatures now open

This is a refurb of the original nocturnal house and connects to the new one next door. It contains mostly the former inhabitants of the old hot house opposite which is now empty as well as some new additions. One notable feature is a home for the recently arrived leaf cutter ants constructed with lego.

Still no plans revealed for the two paddocks currently awaiting or undergoing redevelopment or what the hot house will be replaced by. Exciting times.
