Perth Zoo Numbats at Perth Zoo

Is the Zoo is keeping Numbat and Echidna in Day Exhibit in the Australian Bushwalk Zone or in Night Exhibits ? I know, both were kept formely in thea Nocturnal House, but for me unknown reasons, they were put out of it and placed in this other zone-I guess, both also have now outdoor exhibits ?

Question 2: What other australian Zoos keep and breed Numbats?

Numbats have never been kept in the Noc House - they are a diurnal spp! Both the echidnas and numbats have enclosures within the Bushwalk area.

A few other places have/do keep numbats but I believe that the only other zoo numbat displays are just for exhibit non-breeding purposes.

you may be thinking of Healesville which displays their numbat in the nocturnal house, but where apparently the exhibit isn't actually a nocturnal one. I'm not sure how that works.

Only Perth breeds numbats. There is (or was) one at Healesville.

mm, but what I meant was that the numbat enclosure at Healesville is in the nocturnal house and it looks like a nocturnal set-up from what zooboy28 wrote in one of his Healesville visits, but it is not actually a nocturnal exhibit - instead the window is tinted glass to make it look nocturnal... for some reason.

(Side-note: Musky rat-kangaroos are also fully diurnal).

Ok I see what you mean. Never seen the exhibit so can't comment. Had only ever seen numbats at Perth in outdoor enclosures both on display and in the breeding facility.

Thank you Guys for these informations. I was asking, because there was a female Numbat in the Nocturnal House at Perth Zoo in 1995, kept in cage Nr.7, but I don't know, how long it was kept there.

I was at Perth a couple of years after that for a seminar or Aussie endangered species breeding. I remember seeing numbats in an outdoor enclosure but do not recall them in the nocturnal house, so my guess is that it was not kept there for long after you saw it.

I think this was a special case, but I don't recall why this individual was kept at the noc house. Incidentally the noc house was also the office for the Australian section, so this may go towards explaining the reason why. A few non-nocturnal species have been kept there from time to time.
