Oakland Zoo Oakland Zoo News 2018

Lucha (male) was born at Philadelphia in 2011 and was moved to LA when the rainforest of the Americas exhibit opened. He then moved to Oakland when CT (Californian trail) opened. The female that will hopefully come later on this year is from ARCAS Guatemala, a wildlife rescue center.

I thought the jaguar that came from the Los Angeles zoo was named Stewie?

Apologies for my long hiatus, I had some personal stuff going on and as well as trying to maintain my grades at a level that I consider good. Now that everything is stablized, I’ll continue to work on most of my previous threads as well as updates on Oakland zoo.

The baby hornbill had a name change from Butterbean to Maina and is a confirmed female. She is visible in her exhibit now along side her parents.

As for the hawk, I looked everywhere for information on Ojai but to no avail. Can you (@John Marchwick) tell me were you heard this? If what you say is true, the zoo could be starting to integrate less famous species to the exhibit. Crossing my fingers for an unrealistic possibility!

I texted the zoo yesterday on Instagram about the hawk and they responded me back and said that he’s on exhibit with California Condors and the zoo also said there will be a video about him coming soon. Do you have Instagram @TheEthiopianWolf03? I can send u a picture of him?

No worries I’ll contact them myself. An odd combination of Californian condors and red tailed hawks. Is this the first time a zoo has done this?

I think so, condors are usually kept only in single species exhibits due to their size, aggressiveness, and endangered status.

Pismo’s death hits hard for me even though I only saw him once but he was playing with his 2 brothers. Truly a magnificent animal and I hope the staff are holding up okay.

I worry that his death will only spurr up the people who didn’t want this expansion to happen as now they have an excuse but only time will tell now...

It’s also worth mentioning that the zoo has become so crowded recently that lines to the zoo cause traffic now. This is good for the zoo but to the annoyance of me and the animals always seeing kids hit the glass or scream. I can’t go to the zoo as much anymore due to these crowds so info from me will be very limited.

Have u posted on Oakland Zoo media photos from the California Trail? Also did u ever see that red tailed hawk by chance during your visit?
