On January 1st, the zoo announced that because of unprecedented rainfall, the facility would be closed till January 17th (possibly later) due to a 10-foot wide and 10-foot deep sinkhole in the zoo's entry. The rainfall also caused multiple eucalyptus trees to fall, increased soil erosion, and flooded various buildings, though no animals or staff have been injured.

On January 12th, the zoo announced that due to ongoing construction to fix the sinkhole, the opening has been delayed to January 26th at the earliest.

There's now just one crow still loose. The other showed up on someone's doorstep :D Oakland Zoo on Instagram: "Great news! Today, an Oakland resident living a few miles from the Zoo spotted Deauville, one of our two last missing birds, a Pied Crow, in her front yard. She contacted the Zoo and two of our amazing keepers, Madison and Aeriell, quickly headed over – and were able to lure Deauville inside this kind resident’s home, where she was safely caught in a net and brought back to Oakland Zoo! Check out the video! This means we have one last bird to recover, another Pied Crow, named Diego. If you spot him, please don’t try to catch him – he’s a very shy bird that startles easily – but DO call our rescue hotline (510-703-8986) normally used for our Heron Rescue efforts. What does a pied crow look like? Take a look at these photos. Notice the strong black and white markings, differentiating them from other crows. Thanks for your help and support!"
 
On March 27th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) African bush elephant named Lisa passed away at age 46 due to years of chronic and degenerative health issues.

On April 5th, the zoo announced they acquired (1.1) domestic sheep (breed not specified) from an unspecified facility in Sebastopol, California, and are now on exhibit.

On April 23rd, the zoo announced that (0.2) cougars named Hazel and Holly will be transferred to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo in California in the first week of May.
