On January 1st, the zoo announced that because of unprecedented rainfall, the facility would be closed till January 17th (possibly later) due to a 10-foot wide and 10-foot deep sinkhole in the zoo's entry. The rainfall also caused multiple eucalyptus trees to fall, increased soil erosion, and flooded various buildings, though no animals or staff have been injured.

On January 12th, the zoo announced that due to ongoing construction to fix the sinkhole, the opening has been delayed to January 26th at the earliest.

On March 27th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) African bush elephant named Lisa passed away at age 46 due to years of chronic and degenerative health issues.

On April 5th, the zoo announced they acquired (1.1) domestic sheep (breed not specified) from an unspecified facility in Sebastopol, California, and are now on exhibit.

On April 23rd, the zoo announced that (0.2) cougars named Hazel and Holly will be transferred to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo in California in the first week of May.

On June 19, the Oakland Zoo announced that their white-handed gibbon (Hylobates lar) infant has a name: Joon. Its sex is still unknown.
