The vent crab Segonzacia mesatlantica and the vent shrimp Mirocaris fortunata were kept in 2012. The wikipedia description mentions the crab Bythograea thermydron and a deep sea prawn, Pandalus borealis but I'm not sure if these replaced the species kept in 2012, are mixed or are not kept. There is a possibility (far from certain) that I will be visiting Bretagne in august, and if so Oceanopolis Brest will be included in that trip.
The main reasons that I would like to visit are for the Abyss Box and the Arctic Seals, however, I gather that the latter will be off-display for construction of the Southern Ocean Pavilion. As such, I was wondering:
- Will the seals and sea otters already have been moved offshow by August?
- Is the Abyss Box still there, and if so what species does it contain and is it worth seeing?
- If the seals are indeed off-display, then is Oceanopolis still worth visiting?
Connecting to the entrance of the Polar Pavilion and allowing visitors to skip the otters should they not be interested during a return lap of the Polar Pavilion. Very convenient, but seems like an odd time to build it given that the building in question is set to be demolished and replaced soon. It was open for my visit in late August, and does provide good views of the sea otters. In certain weather, preferable to the main viewing as the windows there are rather unclear especially during rain.
