The Red Crowned Crane family (dad, mum and last year's chick) have been moved from their enclosure near the owls and parrots. Yesterday I saw them in the island/lake area between the railway station and the walk-through aviary. They looked really good there, wading from island to island and looking for food at the water's edge.
There is a new Macaque baby, clinging on to its mother. A female born in December is being hand reared.
The Red River Hogs were mating yesterday so let's hope they have more success at producing a family this time.

Demo has wrecked the bridge over to the smaller island. He worked out after he got the first plank of how to get about a quarter of the bridge of he used the first plank as a lever,He is so smart as i have a fantastic video of him trying to make a swing with the red hose, he thought about the whole thing very methodically then he thought bingo! but to his embaresment he fell of!and scurried back into the house.

The male red panda (Randy) is now in the enclosure with Mandy. Lets hope they produce young.

No little Orangs yet today that is.

Tigers and Lions still of show due to Maintenance work..

Ha, it's brilliant how smart the Orangs can be :)

Btw, when are the Orangs due?

I don't think they've announced any dates, apart from 'within the next few months'.

Lol, so from these posts I assume they'll be born soon :p

wasn't that anoucment a few months ago? :p

Oh yes, it was in January. How time flies. They could be the first to give birth to adult orangutans :D
In the last press release they implied that they might have misread the signs (see the 'orangutans' thread).

No news on the orangs today Demo was outside trying to get into Chinta and Mali,,,,,,,,,,,and you guessed it Mali and Chinta were inside trying to get out so much so ,that Mali was kicking and banging on the door.Gigit is this an 18 month Pregnancy for Mali?
Did learn something today 'Demo is a german!'!!!!!!!!!Darwin will be pleased to hear that as the species have crossed over. Its a miricle.:D

kkkp - I did pop in this afternoon to do an orangutan census and wasn't surprised that there were still just 4. I don't really expect to see a baby anymore! I think Mali is going for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records ;)

Hmm so did they ever confirm she was pregnant or was it just speculation?

Pfft, then why did the announce it

The press release on 26 February (on 'orangutans' thread) gives their explanation. I'll just say that Mali and Demo have been together most of the time since they arrived in November 2007, and she does actually look pregnant.

Patience is a virtue, people.

There is plenty of time ahead for one, two or all three of them to produce babies, even within the time frame of what may prove to have been a mistaken announcement by the Zoo at the time they made it...

Three Cusimanses have arrived from Shaldon and are in Monkey Heights awaiting the completion of their new enclosure on the old penguin pool site.
