Ogród Zoologiczny Opole Ogrod Zoologiczny Opole News

Does anyone know if they have Pallas Cats (Manul) in Opole? I saw a picture from 2016 but they are no longer listed on the website so I assume not, just wondering!

According to zootierliste, they ceased keeping them in 2016 (they only had one individual back then so it's possible it died or it was moved somewhere else).

According to the zoos instagram a male tiger named Diego arrived at the zoo, the first tiger in nearly 25 years to arrive at the zoo!
I am not sure which species of tiger this is, I am thinking of Sumatran but could someone confirm this?

I do wonder whether it could be this Bernau - Wildkatzenzentrum tiger baby that was found a few years back (NOT SAYING: it is, but just a hunch)?

Their Facebook page says he was playing in his previous house - Zoo Krakow - a few months ago. This would mean he is an Amur Tiger, probably the male cub born at Krakow in Feb 2019. But I have to admit, I have not had much success getting accurate information on Amur Tigers in Poland. I'm still trying to find 1.0 born at Krakow on 25 March 2016, and there's nothing to prove Diego is the male cub born in 2019, he could've been born last year for all I know!

I should always read a bit more - another FB post says Diego is 2 years old. So, he is the male born at Krakow in February 2019.

Right, I did not GOOGLE translate the Polish publications, perhaps I should have.

By the looks of it: he - Diego - did look like a Siberian tiger. The connection 2 years and Krakow Zoo is hence the correct one. Thanks for posting confirmation.

I can confirm that tiger who came to Opole is Diego born in Kraków in 2019. But tiger born in Kraków in 2016 is a female, not male and she left the zoo in 2018. But I don't know where did she go.

That would be Annie (or Ania), who moved to Bydgoszcz in January 2018, and reported as being 6-months-old when she transferred in Jan 2018 (which is why I though she was born in 2017, not 2016).

A female Eastern bongo was born at the zoo on January 27th, she was given the name Karenga.
Would this be the first birth of a Eastern bongo at Opole?

Older news.
In December 2 bearded emperor tamarins were born.

A week ago another Eastern bongo was born at the zoo, this time a male. Does the zoo now have 5 bongos in total (2 adult females, 1 adult male and 2 young)?

On the first of August 21-year old female Jaguar (Panthera onca) Bora passed away. She was born in Zoo Bratislava on the 3rd of February 2000 and arrived in Zoo Opole in 2003. Was she the last Jaguar in Zoo Opole?
