Okapi in North America

That's great, glad mom and baby are doing well. So how many are under your care now?

A young male, Kajeki, arrived yesterday at the Brookfield Zoo to become their new breeding bull. Kajeki was born at White Oak Conservation Center in 2003.

Yes, Brookfield has a mother-daughter pair, Semliki and Sauda. Semliki is currently pregnant by Ulimi their most recent breeding bull. This will be her 2nd calf.

A young female, Kandra, arrived today at the Bronx Zoo to breed with their valuable male. Kandra was born 2006 at White Oak Conservation Center.

Cincinnati Zoo had an okapi calf born today to Lisala and Sungura. Sungura died last spring. And Lisala is one of two surviving offspring of a wild caught female, Asengu. Sex is unknown at this time.

Really good news Okapikpr :D

Very cute indeed, also the film of the Sumatran rhino bred at Cincinnati zoo was good too

For Okapikpr: Other than El Jewar, Miliki, Sefini, Karatasi, and Damisi do you know of any other okapi that have lived in Columbus?

Oh, yeah I would forget our only calf (Soon to be two)! Thanks!

I heard a rumor coming out of the Columbus Zoo Okapi barn today!!!

Also, a young male, Bakari arrived at White Oak Conservation Center from the Bronx Zoo today. His sire, Poucet, is currently the #1 ranked male in the Okapi SSP.

Columbus Zoo's new Okapi calf born to El Jawar and Miliki is a male. And a calf was also recently born at the Dallas Zoo to Niko and Manala. Manala is the only other calf born at the Columbus Zoo to El Jawar and Sefini.
