Okapi's In UK Zoo's

Chester are planning to mix the Okapis but cannot tell you with what as i`ve been sworn to secrecy by the staff!I will tell you when i get the nod that its ok from the section head.

Not Bongo- they are too big and risky with those big horns....

Guenons would escape if they were kept in the existing enclosure.

Red River Hogs would be okay but might churn up the paddock too much.

Duikers could work, but so shy they wouldn't be noticed... so not much point..
 
If Zoogiraffe cannot post which species is coming because the keepers asked him not to, what's the point of asking him to do so?

I would not think the hogs will go in with the okapi, but I have no idea what the zoo will be obtaining.
 
I don't mind. I love mixed exhibits that work, and if this other species would work with them , then I see no reason why not...

Yes, they are lovely animals, I'll agree. I'm not sure about Okapi as a mixed exhibit though I'm sure Duikers of any sort would be harmless enough.
 
The duikers it will be then probably, they could turn th giraffe enclosure into a mixed okapi enclsoure with another species because the current okapi pen isnt the biggest is it, it could fit a duiker pair but not red river hogs plus okapis.

They could also join the congo buffalo and giraffe enclosure to house okapi, cong buffalo and diker all together.
 
The zoos in Berlin and Leipzig both have red duiker together with the okapis and that goes well.

Thanks for understanding why i cannot say anything bongorob,what i will say its not the Hogs.
 
I do understand, there are plenty of things that I've been told not to say, but I was just saying that as soon as you're allowed, could you please tell us.
 
Chester has a rather cavalier attitude to zoogeography, as I have already commented about 'Realm of the Red Ape' (which I think I'll call RotRA in the future).
Could it be that the mystery species is South American or from the other side of Wallace's line?
Could we open a book? 50 to 1 aadvarks and so on . . . . :D

The congo buffalo enclosure and giraffe enclosure are joined. The gazelles and the oryx at one time could access both enclosures, the giraffes could only access their own. I remeber on several occasions seeing staff trying to move oryx out of the giraffe house before putting the giraffes inside for the night.
