Okapi's

both okapi females at zoo berlin, batouri and jemima, are pregnant.
unfortunately it's not clear when they will deliver.

Can anyone provide me information about "Hassan"? a male okapi who lived in the zoo of Madrid in the 80's. Thank you very much!

Hassan was wild caught and transferred to the Epulu Capture Station in 1973....he arrived in Madrid in August of the same year and later died in September 1987. He sired one calf that was stillborn in 1985.

ok, latest news now from zoo berlin is that only jemima is pregnant. batouri has only gained so much weight! she's quite a big girl ;)
jemima's offspring is expected in july.

On Friday 10th, at 2.45am a calf was born to mother Lodja and father Rubani at Bristol Zoo.

The calf is a female.

The source lists 2007 & 2009 as date of birth, can any confirm that this birth happened this year?

Great news, especially after the tragedy in Berlin - Jemima gave birth to a female, but got sick and couldn`t nurse her calf, and then first the calf and then mother Jemima died. Now Berlin has only 3 okapi left - old male Sandoa, younger male Stomp and Jemima`s daugther Batouri (who will hopefully get pregnant soon).

I don't think this pair had been formed in 2007, seems more likely that it would be this year. Also, I think it's been mentioned on here that she was pregnant. I hope it's true :)

I also believe it is this year but cannot find a second source to confirm it (always best to find a few sources to back it up ;))

This calf is listed as the very latest birth(10th July) in the Studbook- so it must be this month and this year. Not on Bristol's website yet though.

I saw that but also on that site it has the birth listed on the news section but dated 2007. So I just wanted a second confirmation of the birth.

But in Berlin, there should be another problem. 1,0 Sandoa should be to small to breed with Batouri.
And Batouri and the other male Stomp are related.
