The OKC Zoo is proud to announce that female Sumatran tiger, Lola, 10, is pregnant and due to give birth this summer! This will be Lola's second pregnancy with Kami, the Zoo's 14 year-old male Sumatran tiger. As a critically endangered species, the Zoo is proud to partner with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help protect the species and sustain their populations. We will continue to share updates on Lola throughout her pregnancy!

I think this is pretty cool. The OKC Zoo has installed vending machines for the apes. Tokens are hidden in their indoor habitats for them to find. Putting the tokens in the vending machine yields a treat. Interesting enrichment. Here’s the story from a local news station:

On February 22nd, the zoo announced that their (0.1) North American river otter named Pip has passed away on February 18th due to arthritis and a sharp decline in health. She was 19 years old at the time of passing.

On April 8th, the zoo announced they are opening a new seasonal exhibit titled BRICKLIVE Animal Paradise, which will run from May 7th - October 30th. This is the first time BRICKLIVE will be in Oklahoma, and will feature animals such as a dolphin, giraffe, rhino, African lion, and African wild dog.

Zoo welcomes six-year-old female jaguar
The OKC Zoo is thrilled to announce its newest animal family member, Zia, a six-year-old female jaguar! Zia arrived at the OKC Zoo from the Philadelphia Zoo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Zia can be seen in the Zoo’s Cat Forest and is viewable on a rotational habitat schedule with male jaguar, Tai and male Sumatran tiger, Ramah. The recommendation for Zia to be relocated to the OKC Zoo came from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan® (SSP) for jaguars.

Our resident 6 year-old Grevy’s zebra, Zuberi, is headed to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center as part of a breeding recommendation with the AZA’s Species Survival Plan® for Grevy’s zebras. While in Fossil Rim, Zuberi will reside in a 30-acre private pasture with three female Grevy’s zebras off public view.
Zuberi was born at the OKC Zoo and has welcomed guests since 2015. The Grevy’s zebra is the largest of three species of zebra and is the most endangered in the wild. Zuberi has been an amazing ambassador for his species and will continue to do so at Fossil Rim! As we continue to construct our 14-acre habitat expansion, Expedition Africa slated to open Summer of 2023, zebras will remain part of our animal family. Stay tuned for updates!

-The zoo has welcomed two female elk to the Oklahoma Trails.
-It was previously announced that the Grevy’s zebra was transferred to Fossil Rim. The trust agenda confirms that mountain zebras are coming for the new Africa exhibit.
-One agenda item provides more detail on the upcoming penguin habitat. By designing it to share an LSS with the new sea lion habitat, they estimate savings of $2 million versus separate designs requiring two LSS. The penguin habitat will be around 30,000 gallons of saltwater and house around 25 breeding pairs of African or Humboldt penguins.
