Chester Zoo Old Pictures From The Zoo

Lee, I know this probably isn't exactly what you meant, but when I last went to the zoo, I took photos of that freize they have charting the history of the zoo, which contains various old photos (because I didn't want to stand there in the drizzle reading it for 20 mins). If that's of any interest to you I'm happy to put thumbnails up.

Don't they have a library and archive at the zoo ? ...... I know a while ago there was some discussion somewhere on the forum about a CD Rom you could order from there which contained all the back copies of Chester Zoo News. Think it was about a fiver and that should surely contain a good few pics ?

I have been scanning and posting some of my old Chester shots. I have a lot more, but serious hardware problems mean that I won't be able to do more scanning for a while. Is there anything you are particularly interested in?

I have a lot of old photos too and some are uploaded to the gallery here, but it's a case of a) finding them and b) scanning the negatives, so don't hold your breath for more.

The scanning quality - of the photos especially - in Chester's CD-ROM is poor to say the least and ruins many of the images, so if you can, I'd recommend dropping into the library and looking at the physical copies. The CD-ROM is an excellent reference though.

Janice Madden's book has a good selection of photos and Alan Ashby's 'We Went to the Zoo Today' has a great collection of old postcards.

Thanks everybody for replies was just interested in seeing how the zoo has changed over the years really.
