Chester Zoo Older photos of puluh the male orangutan

I don't suppose anyone has any older photos of Puluh showing how he has developed over the years? I noticed someone had put a link somewhere on another thread but it didn't work. I love the mature males and I'm interested in how the maturing process comes about - ie. the cheek flanges, throat sack etc.

Thanks.

I think I was the one who posted that link. It was to the old website named Orange Hairy Ape (which seems to have been closed now). It had a picture of Puluh as similar in appearance to how Padang currently is.

Perhaps some of the Aussie members have pictures of him before he arrived at Chester?

Puloh was very typical of Sumatran males in that he remained unpadded until he was nearly 18 years old, but then the pads and throat sac developed rapidly, probably within a year. Also associated with this there is usually a further increase in body size and growth of the very long 'fleecy' coat of adult males. Yet a male(as with Puloh) is fully capable of breeding long before this while still in the 'subadult' phase.

Bornean males tend to develop a little earlier generally, sometimes as early as about 10, as did the male 'Jod' who used to be at Twycross. Because this development is hormonal, in both forms its thought the presence of an older male nearby can inhibit or slow down the full development but I don't think that is true in many cases. However at Chester if Padang continued to actually live in with Puloh he could well not develop fully- but i imagine he will leave long before that stage as fighting would start as Puloh wouldn't tolerate him as another adult.

I have some photos of Puloh at various stages in his time at Chester but they are prints so I can't easily post them on here. I'm sure other members have some too. I also have one or two of Puloh's mother 'Puan' taken at Perth Zoo- she is/was a small darkish female, not like Emma & Subis, but I've read that the father 'Atjeh'(who I didn't see as he had died) was the other 'type'(there are at least two 'types' of Sumatran, maybe more).
Perth Zoo was full of Puloh's other relations too- mainly his sisters.
