Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Updated Species List

A few days ago, I got the opportunity to visit Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. There were no updated species list for this zoo, so I decided to make one. This zoo is absolutely huge, and it took me seven hours to walk through the whole thing, and I didn't even have time to visit every single area. For that reason, there are some exhibits or areas of the zoo that I have excluded on this list.

Bay Family Children's Adventure Trails:
This area was mostly just a part of the zoo that was made for little kids, with playgrounds and things like that. There are some animals in there such as domestic goats, budgerigars, and I'm pretty sure black-tailed prairie dogs, but I think that's it. I decided to skip it, since there were much more interesting parts of the zoo to see.

Hubbard Gorilla Valley & Hubbard Orangutan Forest: These areas of the zoo are currently closed for construction. Other than gorillas and orangutans, I don't know what else was in this area of the zoo.

Simmon's Aviary: This part of the zoo was also closed due to construction. I know there were once various species of flamingos, storks, ibises, egrets, and waterfowl exhibited here prior to its closure. I was planning to wait for this exhibit to open before I came to the zoo, but that was before I found out it was opening after I had to move.

Stingray Beach: I had to skip this area due to time restraints. I don't know what species of stingrays are exhibited here.

Hubbard Expedition Madagascar: Probably the one I'm most disappointed about missing, this building was still closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. I would've seen it, if I would've waited until it opened on June 3, which I didn't know until I was already at the zoo.

Excluding the listed exhibits above, every other exhibit that was currently open during my visit will be included on this list. On another note, I'm sorry if I miss any species. I try to write down every single species I see, but some animals have unspecific/no signage.

Red Text: Animal Off-Exhibit/No-Show
Blue Text: Present, but missing signage
Regular Text: Animal present on my visit

This list is accurate as of 5/29/21.

And that is a full list of the animals that were in the areas that were open during my visit. Hope I helped anyone who needed an updated list :)

Something I forgot to add: I forgot to mention that the Suzanne & Walter Scott Aquarium also have Green and Loggerhead Sea Turtles, and a Toco Toucan. They also have wobbegong sharks, although I'm not sure of the species.

Nice list @EternalPigeon! A couple edits from me, the first African Brushtail Porcupine in Kingdoms of the Night is a Prehensile Tailed Porcupine as a keeper told me when I asked a month or so ago. It is the father to the ones that are held in the exhibit with the agouti and the armadillos.

It's been two weeks since I last went, but did they put up a sign for nutria in the swamp? Last I saw was a sign that said animals were off display, as all the nutria that were there died off some years ago. The only thing I've seen in that exhibit for the last couple of months is a lone alligator snapping turtle.

I'm sorry about Madagascar being closed, that was never listed on the website as being closed and honestly I haven't gone and checked all the times I've went the past year. That was news to me.

Was most of the snack and drink options open when you went? My wife and I have been frustrated that as soon as you leave African Grasslands, there aren't really any options until you get around to the entrance if you make the loop. Omaha has been really slow opening all the other food spots.

Madagascar was fully open when I went in August 2020.

The off-exhibit sign for the nutria exhibit was still there on my visit. I don't remember seeing the turtle in there either, but that's probably because it was dark.

On my visit, every single restaurant and food stand (except for one ice cream store in Glacier Bay Landing) has been open and running. They also opened all the tables and seating areas.

What inhabits the former yellow foot rock wallaby area in Desert Dome?

Correct, I haven't seen the rock wallabies in there for a while. I'm pretty sure I saw them in 2019 and pre-COVID. But nothing has been up on those rocks in that area since they reopened.

Was there on 6/3 and can confirm the following species on exhibit that were off exhibit/no show when you were there. Unfortunately it was an evening event which meant a lot of species had gone in for the night and the Jungle and Aquarium were both closed so I don't have too much to add.

Kingdoms of the Night:
Aardvark, Hoffman's Two-Toed Sloth
Alligator Snapping Turtle

African Grasslands:
Lesser Kudu
African Spurred Tortoise

Asian Highlands:
Sloth Bear

Once the Hubbard Gorilla Valley reopens, can you plz update the species list?

Sorry, I would like to but I can't. I used to live in Kansas City, which is a two hour drive from the zoo, but shortly after I made the species list, I moved to my new home in North Carolina. Maybe if I go back there someday, I'll update the list, but that probably won't be for a while.
