One animal to improve a collection.

Wild Place - Asiatic Lion (from Bristol) and Sumatran Orangutan
With the planned closure of the Bristol Zoo city site the Lions will undoubtedly be rehoused at Wild Place I am sure. I would also like to see Sumatran Orangutans return to Bristol-so few Zoos in UK currently keep this species.

I think I've already suggested the return of West Caucasian Tur to Paignton's quarry exhibit, but I would settle for Barbary Sheep. I wonder how they'd get on with Takin?

Ok then, I'll bite. Just for fun, what would you suggest for Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park? I wonder if it would match with any of our plans?:D

I think i would like to see a carnivore at jimmys next.. maybe cheetah or hunting dogs?? Ive heard you have plans for hippo!

:Dhahahahaha.....maybe at one point we might have, but I wouldn't get over excited about that one!

I think we need a carnivore too.

One from: Zebu, Gaur, European Bison, Chillingham Cattle, Banteng or Ankole Cattle?
I also agree about a carnivore. Dingo?

Well I can say that 3 of those have been spoken about at some point.;) It's a lot of cow pats to deal with though!!!:(

I agree with the suggestion of cheetah for the savannah area, a realistic species as not too expensive enclosure wise. Wolves and European Bison would be good in the woodland area.
Otters? Some marmosets/ tamarins, maybe sloths could cheaply be added to the Tropical House.
These are just realistic suggestions, bears may not be on the agenda for a while...

Chillingham Cattle would probably die from stress during transit, and if not, break out on introduction to any sort of enclosure. They are so wild...
Still one of my ‘best’ wildlife experiences ever, going on the Chillingham safari walk - it was great! However, there is at least one satellite herd, probably a third herd, (but maybe Northumberland) so they must have been transported at some point no?

Again, about 3 things on that list are currently regularly spoken about.
It’s great hearing the suggestions and seeing whether they tally up with our thoughts!;)

The second herd is on a Royal estate in Scotland. It was created in case an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease affected the Chillingham herd. I presume that this was done by capturing a few calves and rearing them more or less like farm stock before sending them north. I have never heard of a third herd, and I don't think there would be much point in starting another in Northumberland.

Yes, afaik there is only the single satellite herd. And yes, they probably took a few calves for the founder stock, rather than adults. I saw the Chillingham herd once many moons ago too- a great experience I would agree.

Marwell
Given the fairly empty nature of what now keeps Przewalski’s horses [the former African Valley], part of me imagines that perhaps wisent could be an interesting mix..

You may be well right with that, I am hoping that two or three species from the past will return to Marwell this year.

That, or perhaps some of the space of the lawn in front of the new tropical house could be used to create a nice exhibit for jaguar, perhaps itself a nice entry to the rainforest ahead..
Though to be rather honest it’d be nice if anything went there.
