ONE SINGLE ANIMAL

That is the option, the only option you have is to bring in one single solitary animal, be it mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish or invertebrate, into a UK collection, that for example needs to pair up, or an animal to bring in some new genetic material into an existing group.
Money, import restrictions, availability no problem, you name it, and bring it in.
No extinct animals please.

My choice would be an unrelated male Indian rhino, for the group at Whipsnade.

Now, over to you;)

Is that because(nearly) all the Indian rhinos in Europe are genetically well represented or related in some way?
Though the current Whipsnade male 'Hugo' isn't actually related to any of their three females, because the two mothers were wildcaught from Nepal and the third isn't his offspring.

My choice would be (for similar reasons) a breeding male Gorilla from the USA to go to either London or Jersey or even a Howletts group.

Easy peasy - an unrelated female crowned sifaka: apart from the breeders at Belfast we have 5 males in the UK at Burford & Port Lympne, so we need a female to produce some daughters.

I gather a fresh Asiatic lion, be it male or female, would probably be beneficial to the European breeding program?

A young male chimpanzee for the group of females at Dudley Zoo obvious reasons

You shouldn't need to import;)- there are plenty in UK zoos unrelated to the ex London females at Dudley. Two would also be a lot better than one, and adults better than young ones (better able to stand up to this long- established female group which is likely to give a single or young males a very hard time indeed).

Some good suggestions here. I've ranked them here in order of what I consider might be their importance in aiding existing UK populations;

1. Crowned Sifaka female
2. Purple-faced Langur female
3. Crowned Guenon male
4. Patagonian Sealion male
5. Asiatic Lion
6. Lowland Gorilla male
7. Indian rhino male
8. Chimpanzee male

Do we have some more suggestions?

Cannot argue with any of the positions you have given the suggestions so far.

Other possibilities could include
A female Bawean deer for Edinburgh, as well as a female koala or a female Siberian musk deer.
Or perhaps another female red bird of paradise for Chester.

A male oriental white stork to join Paigntons lone female.
My thread and i am bending the rules, i'm on 6 so far ooops;)

When we have pretty much listed the main ideas, I would be interested to see other people's ranking orders, too.

For a purely personal reason, that I could visit and see them - a male brown lemur for the girls at Yorkshire wildlife park.

I don't know enough about zoo stocks to know what is available in the uk, but that would be my choice.

I also agree with the sifaka as well

perhaps one of the computer whizzkids here, could start a poll, when we get our final list of animals?
