Hello everyone!

I may well be visiting Hamerton in the near future and would like people's opinions on it.Any must-sees? I see they've just acquired tigers-where did they come from.

Thanks!

Take a picnic! The café takes basic to a new dimension. And there is no next to no shelter (but as a Whipsnade volunteer you'll be used to that ;)). Finally, for my taste there is too much space given over to domestic livestock...BUT Southern Cassowary, Palm nut Vulture, Collared Lemur, Mountain Viscacha, Oncilla, Canada Lynx, Jaguarundi, Aardwolf, Corsac Fox, Black-backed Jackal, Maned Wolf, and Siberian Weasel, amongst others, will make it all worthwhile! :D

Spot on about the catering.

However, please note that the Siberian Weasel and Mountain Viscacha are long and recently gone, respectively. There are also other interesting species (Bengal Slow Loris comes to mind) but you'll need patience and multiple visits (to enclosures) to see some of the animals (especially Oncilla and Jackals).

A good place and well worth a visit.

I've seen quite a few posts in various places saying Hamerton 'have just got tigers' or 'acquired white tigers'. Just for clarity, they've brought in new individuals, but have kept tigers (including a white individual) for years! :)

The Palm-nut Vulture is also recently gone.

However, depending on how soon Panthera1981 plans to visit and how on-schedule things go, they might be able to visit after the small carnivore block (containing Tayra, Rusty-spotted Cat and more Oncilla) goes onshow, which last I heard was due to happen in the summer.

It is worth noting, by the by, that Hamerton has *two* kinds of Aardwolf and thus close attention should be paid to both parts of the zoo holding them.

The only trouble is that Hamerton, unfortunately, has a history of near-glacial progress and missed deadlines so you could wait a while. That's more an observation than a criticism, I've got a lot of love for the place.

Very true - although considering the rate of construction progress between my July 2013 and April 2014 visits I am inclined to take this particular deadline a little more seriously than usual. Certainly the path to the complex appeared to be all but complete in April.

Do you know where the Palm-Nut Vulture went out of interest ?

.....Hamerton Zoo

Not sure about Linton, but they used to have them at Exmoor.

I was not aware the species had ever been held at Linton; they are certainly not there anymore. Exmoor had them in January 2013 when I visited, but I cannot vouch for their continued presence there. Cotswold Falconry Centre certainly still has the species though - went there a month ago.

Yes Linton had at least one, many years ago now of course, but I didn`t know if they had carried on with them since or not.
There is a pair at the Hawk Conservancy that I know of.
Thanks for the information about Cotswolds falconry - have they a pair do you know TLD ?
