-Matiku, the Bornean Orangutan born at Novosibirsk in March (Jantan X Michelle) is to be moved to Moscow Zoo, with the intention to introduce his maternal grandmother, Lichana. The back up plan if introduction is unsuccessful, is to move Matiku to Monkey World.
-Sandy (Sandokan) at Apenheul has been announced as being pregnant and due in March 2019. The father will be either Kevin or Amos.
-Mushon, also known as Frank, the Sumatran male from Ramat Gan has passed away. He was the oldest male Sumatran Orangutan in Europe at the age of 49. This leaves Ramat Gan with 1:2 Sumatran Orangutan.
-Bornean Orangutan born to Jantan and Lichana on the 18th of August, so far she appears to be rearing and feeding this one unlike her previous 4 off-spring, who have all been hand-reared at Moscow or taken to Monkey World to be reared. Hopefully she will continue to rear this one.
-Basel Zoo have bred a female Sumatran Orangutan on the 7th of August, the mother is Maia, the father is not known, although Maia had been with Chester born male Budi recently. The baby has been named ‘Padma’.
-Amneville have announced they bred a Sumatran Orangutan on the 30th of April, to father Ludi and mother Putri.
-Ekaterinburg Zoo have gone into Bornean Orangutans after they received a male from Novosibrisk Zoo called ‘Zakary’. This move leaves Novosibrisk with 1:1.
-The Bornean male born at Bioparc Fuengirola (Peek x Mukah) in January has been named ‘Sabangau’.
- Jardin des Plantes have unveiled plans for an new €3million extension to their outdoor Orangutan enclosure, which will be around 570 m2, 15m high and around 5 times bigger than their current outdoor space. They are appealing for public funding for the new enclosure.
