Oregon Zoo Oregon Zoo News 2012

Paint the barn pink, it's a GIRL!
Mom & baby are doing very well, I bet the keepers are extremely happy that it went a lot smoother than her last birth.
Mom & Calf will be behind the scenes for a while yet to bond.
The zoo will let the public know when they can see mom & baby.
Meanwhile, keepers are putting together a short list of names for the public to vote on.

The public can now vote on the baby's name

Bbay names
There's a list of 5 names.
I'm thinking that Lily is going to win...because nobody can pronounce any of the other names....

Well THAT was an eventful couple of days.

FAQ on the Oregon Zoo's website about the baby elephant Rose-Tu's baby and the Oregon Zoo: FAQ | Oregon Zoo

Bottom line, the new calf will stay at the Oregon zoo to live with her mother and the rest of the elephants. There are statements from both facilities saying that she will stay.

I think people got uppity about the whole ownership thing. There's a lot of animals in a number of different zoos that aren't owned by the zoo that they are currently living in.

Hopefully the situation is resolved now. There's still a handful of people out there that are putting shame on the zoo for operating with Have Trunk Will Travel.

Elephant calf Lily is set to meet the public on December 14th. Visiting hours are from 10am-2pm conditions depending. Keepers are allowing 30 visitors in at a time for 5 minutes each.

Also, the zoo is looking for public input on their new elephant exhibit.
