Three Rodrigues flying fox pups have been born:

The Oregon Zoo welcomed three new fruit bat babies to its community this month!

One pup is being hand-fed by keepers after losing its mother, but the zoo reports that it is "very active and eating well." Keepers say she really enjoys mashed bananas.

The Oregon Zoo's history with 'Rod' bats began in 1994 and over the decades, keepers have raised more than 50 pups. The zoo's "bat cave" is home to multiple species of fruit bat.

I think this exhibit will look a lot better with plants, but so far it looks really underwhelming, and the rockwork doesn't look realistic at all. Compared to Steller Cove or the Cascade Crest, this looks like Six Flags or Chessington in terms of theming. As for the chimp exhibit, well, this is what they gave up arapaimas for, folks. Whoopee. The breeding pair was sent to Kansas City because of the need to renovate and expand the exhibit into the old hippo pool.

California condor double clutches:

'No. 765 double-clutched herself': Condor at Oregon Zoo lays second egg as first one is hatching

A California condor at the Oregon Zoo's Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation surprised keepers by laying a second egg just as her first one was hatching.

The first fluffy chick of 2021 hatched on March 13 to condor parents No. 765 and No. 55. The zoo says when keepers got their first glimpse of the chick, they noticed another egg in the next box.

“That was very surprising,” said Dr. Kelly Flaminio, who oversees the zoo’s condor recovery efforts. “Condors typically lay only one egg a year — as far as we know, this has never happened before.”

Interesting. Although the insinuation that the black rhinos are ideal to mix with giraffes and gazelles is interesting. I mean especially considering any future combined savannah would not be too large.
