Zoo is awarded $2 million to help save California condors

Funding will help ‘climate-proof’ nation’s second-largest condor breeding facility

California condors received a much-needed boost this month as the Oregon Zoo was awarded $2 million to support the conservation of this critically endangered species. The funding, included in the year-end omnibus bill signed into law by President Biden, will ensure the zoo’s condor recovery efforts can continue uninterrupted.

Championed by Sens. Merkley and Wyden as part of a package of Oregon investments, the Condor Restoration Resiliency Project will modernize the zoo’s offsite Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation, located in rural Clackamas County.

Nora the polar bear has been involved in beta-testing tracking devices that were attached to her fur. Apparently, Amelia Gray was a test bear at the Maryland Zoo before she came to Portland. These designs could end up being used on wild polar bears.

On April 5th, the zoo announced that (0.0.3) Rodrigues flying foxes were born which are now on exhibit.

The Oregon Zoo updated their logo recently. Personally, I much prefer the old logo, which nicely captured the zoo's noteworthy history with Asian Elephants. This new logo is much more simplified and generic, and its four-quadrant design almost reminds me of the logo used by Microsoft Windows.

Female white-cheeked gibbon arrives:

Meet white-cheeked gibbon Harper, the playful primate joining Oregon Zoo family

Harper was born in 2015 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Association of Zoos and Aquariums recommended she move to the Oregon Zoo based on its Species Survival Plan for gibbons.

Zookeepers say Harper is already bonding with fellow white-cheeked gibbon resident Duffy through grooming, playing, and swinging together.

On May 13th, it was mentioned that the zoo acquired a (1.0) Masai giraffe named James from the Los Angeles Zoo in California.*

On May 25th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) common chimpanzee named Delilah turned 50 years old.

Is Buttercup still at the zoo?

You've already asked this several times on multiple threads before. He is still at the zoo now, and I do not know whether he is going to move elsewhere or not or when it will happen. I'm pretty sure Buttercup will just remain in Portland for now.
