ZSL London Zoo Other side of the canal plans

I agree the Bird Aviaries on the North Bank have seen a lot of significant breeding successes, and still hold an interesting range of species. But they do rather represent the 'old' London Zoo and maybe they get byepassed by all but bird enthusiasts. I'm not saying I would like to see them go(I wouldn't) but I can see why the zoo might want to replace them.

The problem with this area of the Zoo is there is only a fairly narrow level area along the top, then the steep drop down to the canal. Not ideal for larger animal exhibits.

Yes I suppose these aviaries on the North bank do represent "old" London Zoo, I agree that it is important for the zoo to continue with a large bird collection, I admit that these aviaries could benefit from a bit of refurbishment, however I like that part of the zoo because of its tranquility, sitting on one of the seats late in the afternoon looking over to the Cotton Terraces with the Mappins in the background, the Bird house also represented "old", but after alot of thought effort and of coarse money it has been transformed into the attractive exhibit it now is. Perhaps similar could be done on the North Bank and keep it for the birds. As for the zoo's nomadic camels, if it is true that they are going to be moved from the Casson, well may I suggest that they return to the Cotton Terraces when the tapirs take up residence on their former home, that is of coarse if it is correct that the tapirs are moving to the Casson.

As far as I can make out, the idea that the tapirs will be moved to the Casson originated simply from the artist's impression of the new tiger exhibit which sketched them in there, and now seems to be edging into "fact". But please put me right on that if I've missed something.

Fund raising for the tiger enclosure has only just begun, so it's quite a long way down the line yet, though, unlike some things, it will actually happen!
