Our Illustrious Moderators

I've noticed an increase in aggression and other forms of abuse locally since various forms of lockdown began in March. I've also noticed an increase on some Zoochat pages.

I accept that various Zoochatters differ in what bothers them, but I feel that there should be no place for bullying on Zoochat. On Friday and Saturday, a Zoochatter was being bullied by one Zoochatter and this behaviour seemed to be condoned by another. This didn't seem to have any positive aspects and should have been stopped as soon as possible.

Would it be possible for there to be more 'moderators' who could take turns to scan through comments and filter out those that are abusive? The BBC News website has such a facility and some comments can be delayed for several minutes. I doubt if there would be a problem on Zoochat. I've been a member for several years and I doubt if I'd be bothered if one of my comments were delayed by a few minutes. Hopefully, the same would be true for other Zoochatters.

I agree there is no place for abuse and I think our moderators do a remarkably good job (far better than some forums I have seen). However if you are suggesting they look at every single post and approve it before it goes live, I don't think that is workable at all. There are far too many posts on this site to make that feasible, even if you increase the number of moderators (which in itself is problematic). I will remind everyone who reads this that you can click "report" under a comment you think is inappropriate, whether or not the comment is directed at you.

Thanks, Arizona Docent

I accept that being a moderator can be time consuming. I'll try and remember to press the 'Report' key if I see something disturbing. A couple of days ago, I was more bothered about the abuse rather than reporting it.

Take care
