And the Berenbos is the hectare of forest given to 11 rescued brown bears and (in a separate enclosure) two female sun bears.
 
I asked about the Tarsier house (with the spooky animals, as one assistant referred to them) today and was told it usually open around 2 or 3. I tried again anyway around 11:30 and it was open, so that was good. I didn't make any real effort to photograph them.
 
Visit today:

The tarsier passed away last week. It is still unknown as to why.

The cuscus is still alive, and doing well.

Never seen red river hogs and African elephants mixed; a very interesting mix to see firsthand!

Lots of building work going on (probably because of the winter season); the hornbill aviaries are being re-netted, the (former?) electric eel tank is being refurbed etc.

Plus about visiting in winter; you don’t have to book for the pandas, you can just go in and see them :)

Saw 3/11 (2 out of five males and one out of six females) brown bears in the Berenbos.

Never realised this, but as well as meerkats and roloway monkeys there are also red-crested turacos mixed with the gorilla bachelors.

The area where the bonobos will go is currently populated by pigs and donkeys, but it certainly looks spacious for a group of seven.

Yes that was the last of the tarsiers, there are no tarsiers left at the zoo. I can confirm what ShonenJake said. I went to Ouwehands this Tuesday and I asked a zookeeper about the tarsier, she told me that the last one had died one week ago and that they had sent it to the university of Utrecht for further research.

How odd! I was there yesterday and all four elephants were alive and (seemingly) well. I don’t recall there being one called Sabi here; is this definitely at Ouwehands?
 
Quick update.

- The signs in the zoo are kind of outdated, in the case of the hornbills, the tarsier and maybe the porcupines.
- After the marten attack on the hornbills, I can safely say I saw 2 rufous hornbills, 3 or 4 wrinkled hornbills, 1 rhinoceros hornbill and 2 wreathed hornbills. No knobbed or great hornbills.
- The new snowy owl aviary and the new flamingo enclosure* look really nice.
- * the zoo now keeps 3 groups of flamingos, 1 with greaters, 2 with american flamingos. I think there's at least one Chilean too.
- The former snowy owl enclosure houses/is going to house golden pheasants. They were on the map but there was neither a bird nor a sign to be seen.
- There are two ground hornbills in the Waddensea enclosure :confused:
- Pelicans are breeding.
- The old camel and llama stables are demolished to make room for the bonobos.
- Electric eel tank is visible again and has at least 2 huge eels
- Poison dart frog tank received an update
- new ice cream bar has been build next to the gibbons, the jungle restaurant is still closed
