Zoo Parc Overloon Overloon zoo news

I may visit the Zoo soon. Is there any major construction soon, so that I could move my visit back untill it is finished

The construction of a clouded leopard exhibit on the location of some of the former South American exhibits is still ongoing.
How long will they take. I would go likely in early Setember in the Zoo. If I would miss the coulded leopard, it would not be biggest loss, despite how much I love them. Since I saw them in the last 2 years 4 times

The most recent post on the park's Facebook page about the project did not give a timeline for the completion of the exhibit and the arrival of the clouded leopards, but from the video early september seems too soon to me.

The aim was to open the clouded leopard enclosure in mid-2024. But it has been somewhat delayed. They now expect it to open sometime in autumn, but an exact date is not known.

Work on the new camel enclosure has also started or will start soon.

Has anything been made public yet about possible plans for the old camel exhibit?

Seems like Overloon does no longer keeps blackbuck. The species was already on phase-out, and when I visited in June there seemed to be just a single male left.
Yesterday, I did not see any, the signage was removed, and the enclosure was now inhabited by domesticated goats (and also still at least one muntjac, which is also a phase-out species)

That is a sad lose. I allways enjoyed asiantic hoofstock (paricuallry deer, like the lost sika in the same exhibit). IS there anything palned with te enclosure.

And I never heared that Blackbuck are about to be phased out before.

I ment the species was on phase-out for this particular zoo, not in general. Maybe I should have made that more clear.

Since when are the waterfowl gone from the outback walktrough ?

Probably since avian influenza became a more year round issue in the last couple of years. According to ZTL they were still there in 2021, but does not say anything about 2022 or 2023.

Construction of the new tropical Africa area Ngyuwe at ZooParc Overloon has started. This is the largest project in the history of the zoo, which will also celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025. What is known so far:

- The new area will cover two hectares and will be on the site where, until recently, the camels, among other, were. With the new area, the zoo hopes to grow to 250,000 visitors a year. The total investment for this area is roughly two million euros.

- The area will house 17 animal species. Four of these are already located elsewhere in the zoo. These are red river hogs, hamerkop, De Brazza's monkeys and pygmy hippos. Of the 14 new animal species, three are unique in the Netherlands. The new animal species will be announced in the upcoming period.

- There will be several spacious enclosures where several species will live together. There will also be a village where visitors will learn about bushmeat. Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit some of the animals indoors.

I read in the post of "Zoo Inside" on facebook that the zoo will keep african elephants too. Is it true or maybe a translation mistake?

I think this would be a mistake, I read nothing about elephants in the Dutch post - a decent modern African elephant exhibit would take up all or most of the two hectare area dedicated to this African project. Overloon would not have much space left for other developments if they wanted to get elephants. There is a lot more they can do without getting elephants.

Thank you for the update!
