Paignton Zoo Paignton News 2020

A new male Spider Monkey is due to arrive from Givskud Zoo in Denmark this week. There are photos and a short piece about his departure on Givskud's Facebook page
Good news. Maybe now the long awaited move to monkey heights will happen, after all of the hard work by the monkey/mammal dept! The Mangabey's were due to move up and replace the Spiders. That would still leave one empty exhibit in monkey heights - such a shame considering the now healthy King Colobus group are living in pretty poor conditions (comparatively) off-show. Maybe a new species will arrive, or perhaps the Macaque or mandrill group could be split to form new groups?
Either way - good news.

A group of 5 male Swamp Wallaby have been welcomed to the zoo, and will share an exhibit with the Roos :)
So the Roo paddock will be split into two (probably creating an off show area higher up the hill) which will make the wallaby easier to see. The E G Roo’s (2 males) will be phased out. I still think there needs to be another 2-3 Australasian species in the area, perhaps Emu & Magpie Geese or a small Potoroo area? The Eucalyptus trees in the area lends itself to a decent themed exhibit. Given the financial constraints at the moment, this is good news....

Yes, hopeful signs! There is still one Emu in that very large ex-Lechwe paddock. Haven't seen the Magpie Geese for a while.

Does Paignton still have Secretary birds? If so, how many and whereabouts are they kept?

Hay Zoochatters do you know what the future holds for Living Coast’s? Personally I hope that Living Coast’s is bought by people, that wish to retain it as an animal related tourist attraction.

Might be better off asking this in the LC thread :)

The new Spider Monkey seems to be getting on well with the females. The Ape House has re-opened to visitors (hurray!). I could see only one Hyacinth macaw and the remaining Roadrunner had been replaced by a Toucan up in the parrot aviaries area.
