Paignton Zoo Paignton News 2020

The Mangabeys have moved into the long-empty enclosure in Monkey Heights. It was once their home. It looked as though they'd only just moved and were enjoying exploring it all. I remember ThomasNotTom being partly responsible for its refurbishment with branches, soil and plants. The Mangabeys were chewing bark, breaking off twigs and testing the suppleness of branches so may reduce the improvements to a pile of dead leaves ;)

As TriUK said, the trees in the tiger enclosure are being boarded up - very substantially. Much more so than those in the lion enclosure. I'll put a photo in the gallery. The lioness was up a tree next door possibly watching what was going on.

We were all given a map outlining the measures being taken to combat Covid19 and Avian Flu - some of the birds have been moved, areas closed and extra hygiene measures are in place.
The high branches were meant for the Spider Monkeys no?

Sumatran Tiger update - Carrie and Padme (born January 2019) are moving from Ree Park to Paignton next week
(The move is confirmed on Ree Park's Facebook page)
@Nisha is there any updates about an Asiatic Lioness joining Yali? I cannot wait to meet Carrie and Padme in the fur!!

@Nisha congratulations on your prediction being correct, you should become a fortune teller (clairvoyant) on Zoo’s!! LOL

The King Colobus are back! Two were in the Monkey Heights enclosure just vacated by the Mangabeys. There have been none on show since Summer 2019 and, as far as I know, there were 1.2 in December 2019.

Lots of work going on in the lion and tiger enclosures - the lion enclosure will become the tiger enclosure and vice versa. The arrival of the new tigers is imminent and the new lion almost imminent, according to the grapevine.

The young male was sent off to a new zoo in the last few months :)

Just to confirm, the order of species from the education centre side is: Macaque, Diana, Colobus then Mangabey? Thanks

Apologies if I've missed the reason as to why but how come Paignton are swapping the tiger and lion enclosures?

Sometimes it's nice to change things up - or maybe the facilities inside were more appropriate for the individuals they're receiving, hence the new configuration.

This species is just about hanging on at Paignton. For many years there was just a pair in the old Monkey House, and with occassional births and deaths in the interim making for gains and losses in equal proportion, they seem to have contracted back to that number again now.

Correct.
Did the male colobus go to Blackpool or A Alive do you know?

I heard on the grapevine that the enclosures were originally intended to be the way they're going to be, but for some reason it didn't happen.
