This is a bit of a stretch but does anyone know what happened to Banda and Tenangs litter in 2009 and where they went and what they were named? I found that one of them was named Aryo and lived at Burgers Zoo, but what were the other three named? Thanks![]()
Kemala (F) died in July 2009, following an injury
Surya (F) moved to Flamingo Land in September 2010
Bintang (M) moved to Bioparc Doue La Fontaine, France in July 2010
I believe Bintang lives at Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland@Nisha are Surya,Aryo and Bintang still alive? Also is Banda and Tenang’s elder daughter Kiranna still around?
Oh and is Kirana the female at Chester Zoo? If so then she still lives there with her daughter named Kasarna@Nisha are Surya,Aryo and Bintang still alive? Also is Banda and Tenang’s elder daughter Kiranna still around?

Aah yes and I believe Lucu is forming a breeding pair with Dharma at Edinburgh who was born at Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland@TigerStripe your strpeon Kiranna did move to Chester Zoo where she parented many litters with Fabi. Incidentally Fabi later moved to Paignton Zoo,to join Shakira with whom he fathered his final progeny a Son called Luchu. Luchu moved to Edinburgh Zoo last year a few months following Luchu’s departure Fabi sadly was euthanised due to many age related health problems. Despite being stated to suffer from age related health problems Fabi really was not that old at the age of 12.
If you can get some photos of the MW exhibit, it would be great to see what they've done with it. Thanks!Like many others, I’m really looking forward to seeing the zoo & gardens again on Monday. I can’t wait to buy some coffee & cake, to thank ALL staff for their hard work and to see how the Maned Wolves have settled back in, whether there have been any arrivals and to see the Spring flowers.
Will do, no probs. If you can get some photos of the MW exhibit, it would be great to see what they've done with it. Thanks!![]()
Better than leaving that paddock empty (it has been for a long time having previously held ratites). Maybe one day they will create an overhead tunnel to provide the Mandrill with more space or add a new species that would fit with the African savannah theme I.e. between rhino & giraffe?"The Ouessant sheep have moved home!
Our loveable flock of six sheep have now moved from The Ranch to the large hillside paddock next to the rhinos and seem to be really enjoying the bigger space and many opportunities for grazing."

This is what it feels like! I know times are hard & everything is difficult, but I can’t help thinking that other curators would have been encouraged to source some exotic stock - even just on loan?‘We’re really short of hoofstock so we’re spreading out the domestics a bit’![]()
When you consider the number of staff that have lost their jobs, and the closure of Living Coasts, we're lucky there's still a zoo in Paignton. This is what it feels like! I agree to a point with you Thomas, but there is a balance to be struck. There are rare breeds farms and petting zoos abound in the SW and the zoo is a premium day out for families. Was the zoo ‘really’ starting to find its feet before COVID? Maybe..? You know I love this park. It’s so special to me but the management should not be shielded from criticism when it’s due behind the smokescreen of C-19. Yes we are lucky to have PZ. Yes it is sad about jobs etc. Yes the current staff have & are working so hard and I will thank them face to face on Monday and contribute even more to the coffers in support, but I hope it doesn’t become a farm park as then we will lose it! Just think, walking along you see Rhino, Mandrill, Domestic sheep, then Cranes & Giraffe - how odd! Let’s hope it’s temporary! When you consider the number of staff that have lost their jobs, and the closure of Living Coasts, we're lucky there's still a zoo in Paignton.
Give the zoo some time, I'm sure it will find its feet again, as it was starting to do before this covid madness began.
I’m sure it will be a stopgap. A simple fence and shelter is all that was needed to turn it into an enclosure.Let’s hope it’s temporary!
You are right, but the fence wasn’t a simple one, it’s a specialist badger-proof fence with double gates. That’s where Thomas was probably coming from to be fair, ‘bouncing back’ from the TB outbreak just before C19!I’m sure it will be a stopgap. A simple fence and shelter is all that was needed to turn it into an enclosure.
Sorry about my slightly jaundiced attitude, but I still haven’t forgiven this organisation for the change of name that totally disrespect the zoo’s founder. When you consider the number of staff that have lost their jobs, and the closure of Living Coasts, we're lucky there's still a zoo in Paignton.
