Someone I know who did an Animal Experience recently was told that a male Red River Hog was on the way.
Dianas - they're rarely close enough for anything to happen, at least while on display.

@TriUK when you reference the relocation of the Zebras,do you mean that the Rothschild Giraffes are leaving Paignton? I hope this is not the situation,this would certainly be two steps forward and one step back. I am glad the Zebras are moving to a larger and more adequate enclosure. Hopefully Paignton keep the 2 Zebra Fillys and move Jabari. This would provide Paignton with 2 extra breeding Females. My opinion is that Paignton should retain both fillys. Realistically Taru could only have a couple more foals. Taru is now at least 20 years of age. I know that the younger Mare resides at Paignton,but the Zoo is in the best position with the Heartmans Mountain Zebra it’s ever been in. Hopefully this move will bring an end to the curse of the bad Hooves.
@TriUK do you know if a Male Rotchild Giraffe will move to Paignton as part of this project?
Taru is now on birth control. The Giraffes are due to move into the empty Elephant house & paddock, with the Zebra moving into the current Giraffe section, which though not mountainous, will be better for their hoof health.
I heard that a male Giraffe is planned, but changes at PZ take years not months?

@TriUK from your response that I quoted,it sounds like thease developments are years down the line. I have 3 questions that I would like answered. I’ll tag @Gigit and @Pertinax as between you my answers will most likely be answered
1. Where is the Jungle Express being moved to now that it is leaving Paignton Zoo?
2. What is happening to the derelict Living Coasts site? It has been closed for almost 2 years with virtually no updates.
3. Which Zoo is Yali the Asiatic Lion heading to later this year,and what are your views on Yali being replaced by African Lions,the more common breed of Lion?
The train and track have all been purchased by private train enthusiasts around the country.
Torbay Council have a number of specialist business estate agents asking for suitable bids from investors to transform the Living Coasts site into something that matches the council’s vision (whatever that is?). Three deadlines for applications have passed, so obviously nothing. It remains overgrown & rather sad looking.
The transfer of Yali has not been updated to say where he’s going. Personally, I’m sad PZ are losing Asiatics but glad it’s happening as a welfare move (Newquay s exhibit is far too small for 3 lions).
For those not local: Taru is a female Hartmann's mountain zebra.
I suspect the original female, or both of them together, may still be dominant over the 'new' male, even if he's now full grown. It may be more likely that he will eventually breed with the daughter though.

Having watched the BBC news item on this, I would suspect not. They mention a new habitat for native species such as birds and insects. Filling it with trees is more cost effective than keeping animals there. A bit like the situation at Edinburgh that I've just been reading about, as described by TeaLovingDave:

Well, not so much - so far as I recall, that area hasn't been part of an exhibit for quite some time (I don't even recall an exhibit there when I first visited in 2012) and therefore doesn't fall under the same shrinkflation banner as the situation I was talking about
I think in recent decades it’s been scrubland and dedicated, ironically, to badger watching (which I enjoyed on a number of occasions) and had ‘British Wildlife’ signage under Tongues stewardship. It’s the first breeding from this pairing/holding I believe. Not sure if they’ve been held in the past but certainly haven’t been in the last 10-15 years.

The baby is a female. The pair arrived from Newquay last September with their son, born February 2020.

Elsewhere - a signless tank in Amphibian Ark has for a long time contained nice planting, a bowl of water and pieces of fruit. I thought they must be breeding fruit flies or something but according to a new sign it contains Coconut Crab/s.
If so, they’ll need to find a much larger tank as they’re huge when grown!
More entrance changes next month.
