Paignton Zoo Paignton Zoo News 2016

That makes Fabi's transfer from Chester well worthwhile.

Alan

It is good news, especially considering her history.

Other interesting news - there are two Secretary birds in the aviary between the Tapirs and Maned Wolf. And the Turs have had at least two young (kids?) - particularly good news as they lost the male in March.

Would that be one of the aviaries that had ground hornbills and black crowned cranes in?

A very nice addition either way! :)

Paignton are on a roll! :D

Tiger Cubs

One of the tiger cubs has died but the other two are said to be doing well.

Visited today - Asiatic Lioness Maliya has given birth to two cubs on the 16th of June. She and her mother Indu are off show until she's more mobile according to the sign.

Hopefully both the Lion cubs will survive. Shakira's surviving cub is doing well but is still at a critical stage at the moment. But she is taking good care of the cub at the moment.

The new Lemur enclosure has opened. A nice little house with 4 dens with small connecting openings that can be opened or closed. The outdoor area (that they are calling an aviary) is netted and has newly planted trees. There's a hatch from which, presumably, the lemurs will be able to become free-range. The Ring-tailed and Red-fronted lemurs have taken up residence. Their old houses are both empty at the moment - one inside Lemur Wood and the other just outside.

I'll upload a couple of photos in due course.

Lemur enclosure - I've uploaded a photo but there are better ones on the Zoo's Facebook page.

There's an attractive Green Peafowl in one of the Parrot aviaries. I failed to get a decent photo of it so hope that gentle lemur will be visiting with his far superior skills :)
