Please can someone inform us as and when they know more about the lion sanario as I'm genuinely quite worried about the Lion pride! I hope it's nothing but as Asian lions are dwindling in the wild and loosing five of them will hit the breeding program like a bomb.
@Drago That doesn't sound good, hopefully it's nothing, but like yourself I'm fearing the worst!
It was my first thought on seeing their tweet as well - got everything crossed that we are wrong.
They have said they will post to social media so you should just follow their accounts if you want to know what the zoo is saying.

I hope this stops all my fellow Zoochatters worrying! Paington have answered someone's twitter question by writing the following. Our Lions are all ok yes but they are still off show for now. Thank you for your concern. I must add I didn't ask the question as I only belong to Facebook and not twitter. I have a feeling some cubs have been born!

Maybe the lion cubs have been rejected and the Paington keepers are trying to introduce them to the pride or maybe they have attacked a keeper and have to be kept in due to that.

I thought Maliya was on contraceptives? Unless the contraceptive failed it would be extremely irresponsible to breed with the Zoo's current situation regarding TB?
It could be something else. The glass in the enclosure is really in a poor state and could do with replacing. Who knows until they reveal more themselves...

Drago I agree with you saying it would be irresponsible to breed with the zoos current situation regarding TB but unfortunately accidents do happen so if I'm right saying thier are cubs the zoo might not have been able to stop it. I also agree with you saying we'll have to wait and see because we can't really assume anything before its confermed by Paington zoo themselves.

As I live in North Wales and haven`t visited Paignton Zoo as an adult, I`m not prepared to speculate. We all want the best outcome and clearly that isn`t always the case but as there is no official statement from the zoo we would be best to play the waiting game. As Drago says it could be a building/health and safety issue.

But surely they would have just said so if it was something like that, rather than referring to unforeseen circumstances and making people speculate.
Remember Paignton or any zoo/safari park don't have to give us any information regardless of any situation. It may be that this is something that can be resolved without public knowledge. We all know how stories can escalate and become twisted once on social media and through papers. Last thing Paignton need is any bad/twisted publicity. IF it is a health & safety issue i.e.; cracked glass then can you imagine what the local and possibly national papers would publish, like I said we're best off letting Paignton resolve it. Chinese whispers are dangerous believe me

That's good. My first thought on seeing the signs in the zoo's entrance hall yesterday was that another tree might have come down after our windy weekend. The hordes of visitors would have seen any maintenance work as they passed the lion enclosure so, if such work was was taking place, there was no need to be cagey about it. I usually only look at the cats if I have time on my way out. Yesterday I didn't, nor the inclination, knowing that the lions were offshow anyway. That'll teach me
Very nice species, but wasn't the Cottage Aviary home to grey gulls and choughs before?
Have they moved elsewhere on site, or have they gone?

There are no choughs now - they moved on. The grey gulls are in one of the aviaries in the ABC.Very nice species, but wasn't the Cottage Aviary home ti grey gulls and choughs before?
