How old are the elephants? Is there breeding potential here?

Suzy is about 36, Gitana about 39, they came from the wild so no exact birth dates are known. Given their age and their past as performing or circus elephants, they are not suitable for breeding. It is basically retirement homing for them.

Pairi Daiza is going to keep another wombat subspecies. Recently, 10-year-old female Tinsel arrived from Zoo Duisburg. She is an Australian wombat (V. u. hirsutus). Soon, a male of this subspecies will also arrive at Pairi Daiza.

The current female Kochii, a Tasmanian wombat (V. u. tasmaniensis), will move to Zoo Halle next Friday.

Visiting for the first time (and most likely last time) this summer. Is there anything I should know?

If you are visiting during field trip season beware. From personal experience locate all restrooms beforehand.

Make sure you stay as late as possible, many of the older parts (aquarium, reptile boat & the greenhouses with most bird rarities) are not made for the current crowds, so are a very unpleasant experience midday.... Fortunately opening hours in summer are long. It is a big zoo, so if you have specific animals you want to see and aren't sure where they are, best ask here beforehand so you don't miss them.

how long exactly are the opening hours?

From my experience, don't expect to see everything in one day (it is probably just about possible in 2 days, unless you get distracted by the museum stuff, geological specimens etc). Study the website and search this thread and our gallery to make a list of the species you don't want to miss and find their locations on the map; it's even better if you can talk to someone who has visited recently.

Visited today and saw a Wombat sleeping in the indoor area, would this be the new female that I saw?

Likely given the dates of the recent move and arrival in the earlier post.

Two new red ruffed lemurs, brother Jack (6) and Scott (4) have arrived from Dublin and have moved into their indoor quarters on the island of Nosy Komba, where they will eventually be mixed with three other lemur species.

Could someone confirm something for me, I saw a wallaby species on my visit but it wasn't signed and wanted to check which species it is. It was in the enclosure on the left which has a wooden fence around as you are walking through the Australia exhibit toward the Tasmanian Devils/Emus. Are these Swamp Wallabies?

If I understand your description, this would be either the wombat or one of the cassowary exhibits?

If the wallabies are mostly dark/chocolate brown, they are swamp wallabies, that is the only wallaby species they currently have. The only other small macropod option would be the Dorcopsis, but in that case they would have moved them from the koala house.

I have personally seen some macrops in the Tasmanian devil exhibit before, but I find it strange they would also be able to enter the wombat exhibit, as I think that would provide them an easier escape route.

Thank you, it must have been the Swamp Wallabies. It was before you come to the Tasmanian Devil exhibit, in a separate enclosure. I'm sure I saw at least a few in the bushes/foliage.
