;)not really, just felt the forum had become a little too serious lately ;) dw melbourne, youll catch up with sydney one day!!!!
hope this thread raises a wry smile from our Australian participants before or at work on what is going to be the second day from the weekend:rolleyes:

lol dont tell me you were happy. but hey, i had to do it. it worked like a good luck charm for taronga. and why arent u in bed young man, its a work day tomorrow! speaking of which i should go.
has anyone got any good Australian zoo news? any juicy allegations, exciting imports, new exhibits to open? we need new news!

even the last zoo friends magazine from taronga was pretty boring, albeit insightful. and considering how not 'behind the scenes' the development of GSO at taronga was im not even excited any more. its like being a kid at christmas but knowing exactl what youre going to get ;)

isn't GSO open yet?!!!

sheesh - you guys been waiting for that one for a loooong time. personally like all zoo exhibits these days it looks too jammed full of "immersion" thematics, which only helps to not feel like a beach.

i wonder how melbourne's turns out? someone mentioned a stingray lagoon...

Maybe melbourne will make a disease free aquarium, Ay Pat!

Melbourne Aquarium had disease problems?!? And last I thought it was only the Sydney Aquarium that had those issues in the past - I'm really out of touch with the news these days. Oh well at least I picked the right days to go there...

Well, it seems that glyn's joke thread is a self- fulfilling prophecy and Pak Boon really is pregnant now, to Gung.

That means that 3 of Taronga's 4 elephant cows are now pregnant!
(Beat that, Melbourne.:D)

Great news. I hope all goes well and by 2011 we will have three female calves at Taronga. :)

Darn it! got all worked up for nothing. But I was then happy to confirm that it was true.

Have you forgotten than we have the super stud here in melbourne? ;)!
Then again your bull knows how to naturally breed!

Not fair! Only two of ours are over the age of consent. Give us a while. ;)

A super stud with technical issues. LOL :)

I wouldnt bet on all female calves to soon! Out of the 27 calves born through AI only 6 were to be female!! And theres still 50/50 chance of females with natural mating

noticed though with younger males breeding that more females are often born. So there is a possibility with Gung's natural breeding there is a higher chance of females. Not extremley high but slightly above 50/50.

With the male calves I wonder if they will be kept in a new facility in werribee? The calf of Pornthip though if it is female could still breed with Gung. Perhaps if a high amount of female calves are born they could be sent to Perth?

I think it`s way too early for this kind of speculation. We don`t know how many of the calves will survive (first-time mothers are high risk) and which gender the surviving calves will be, so it`s useless to discuss what will happen to them down the road.
